tyres
« on: March 18, 2014, 09:53 PM »
just bought a set of cult dehart tyres 2.1" tanwalls to go on my s&m l.a.f, the rear tyre rubs the brake arms and the front tyre rubs the brake cable. never had a problem before with 2.1 tyres clearance so tried a new set of primo v monsters in the same size and their fine with plenty clearance. measured the cult tyres fully inflated on a wheel and the diameter is 20.5", anyone else had this problem. think i'm gonna stick with primo's from now on.

you may be ok on the rear depending on what frame you have and where the brake lugs are welded, the brake lugs on the s&m are welded nearer the tyre side on the seatstays instead of central. think you'll have problems with the front though if you use a canti brake on it. i've just cut a slot on a spare pair of forks from the hole on the rear (the hole to fit a caliper brake) to see if that helps a bit. i may even file down the inside of the brake for the rear and see if that works.

Thought I'd posted in 'ere earlier but must have nearly got caught out at work so closed the window....

Tbh they seem to vary a bit dependant on tyre manufacturer - me Steadfast has enough room at the back (it's a CS though) to run a 2.2, but I had to grind down the inside bulge a bit on me brake arms. Shaved a mm off to allow for a bit of tyre wobble/elderly fat b@stard landing heavy buldge and jobs a good'n.

I've got a 2.3 up front, with Sunday forks - looking at it it'd still let me run a front brake with no cable rub (although knackers to that  :LolLolLolLol: ).

Originally had the rear slammed on my Eddie (and the CS) but changed chain from an Oddy to an Eclat with a half link. The half link crapped out on me twice on the Eclat, so gone back to normal links and budged the rear out a bit. Saying that the noise it gave me before breaking as it gently ground into my rear hub gave me plenty of warning.

fukking big motorbike tyres I hate them... makes the bike feel all wrong.

But Len has told me to stick with them so I listen as he is the don.

the problem with the tyres are the diameter of them when inflated, should be 20" but are actually 20.5"
