HAMPSHIRE / DORSET MEET 2/3/2014, Knightwood BMX club Southampton

Knightwood BMX club is the newest BMX club on the south coast, the track was finished July 2013.
The club is holding it's first race meeting on the 2/3/14 and is the last round of the Southern Winter series, today's race the 2nd in the series at Gosport had over 160 competitors so there should be a good turn out.
To mark the event we are going to be holding an old school display/meet at the same time to display the history of the sport in the UK.
Phil Sawzall and Andy Morgan both ex Southampton Solent Spitfire members have offered to help with the old school display so you will be in good company

I have given you guys a date and venue for a southern meet so lets make it happen, if the meets a success we will be more than willing to make it an annual event. You will be more than welcome to use are new track after the racing has finished we just ask you to wear a minimum of a crash helmet for protection.
Anyone planning on coming to display bikes can you put your name down and the number of bikes you may be bringing so we can have a rough idea of numbers.
Cheers Colin Chivers

4/5 bikes i'd of thought Colin. Depends on room in the car. I only live in Totton so not too far with them on the roof.

Cheers guys starting to sound good already. Darren Wood is hopefully coming down as well. If I can get hold of a Sun Mistral rim that I need to finish my 1st build that will also be on display.
Phil and Andy perhaps we could meet up at the track 1 Saturday morning in Feb to discuss with Anthony Howells and myself where to position you guys on the day.

I'm going to try and attend this but unfortunately I can't confirm until Feb. How many BMX I bring will depend on vehicle unless we're limited by space?

Jaan no problem, we have loads of room we just want to know roughly what size of area to put aside for the old school display.

I'm now a member of Knightwood BMX club comity so it's easier to get suggestions put through.
We will be asking for a small donation from people displaying their bikes to cover parking and use of the facilities, this money will go directly into the clubs funds and if we can prove to the local council that the club is financially stable we are going to apply for extra funding to improve the track taking it from regional to national standard, better spectator facilities and even possibly flood lights for evening races and training sessions.
If the display is successful this year we could make it an annual event with the possibility of an indoor display by hiring 1 of the sports halls at the leisure centre.

I'm going to try and get down to race my new school as this is just one week before the 1st South Regional Race at my home track in Merton. I'll try and throw a couple of geese and maybe a streetbeat in the car if I can get them in with my FA and my lad's RL.
Childhooddream - I could bring those raleigh wheels down too if you still want a set?

A quick update, the club's web site is now up and running for more information.
knightwoodbmxclub.co.uk
We were planning on having the old school display next to the footpath leading to the track but due the bad weather the grass is going to be too wet/muddy. Were now going to use an area of the skate that backs onto the fence of the basket ball court, so you have a tarmac display area and it's still close to the track, car park and cafe.
750Rush I was hoping to race myself but I can't see I'm going to get the time
the joys of helping to run a club. The Merton track looks good I will try and get there one day for a ride.

Hi guys less than a week until the big meet and it's going to be very busy as the last race in the Winter series had over 190 racers.
With that number of riders parking is going to be tight so we have secured parking just across the road at the doctors surgery/nursery. If you bringing a large number of bikes ask on the gate if you can drop your bikes off before moving your car/van over to the other car park.
At the other races in the Winter series the other clubs have charged £3 parking, the parking charge is what were asking for as a donation to the club for displaying your bikes, remember this money goes to the club to be invested back into our sport.
Phil/Andy I'm planning on bringing my S&M dirtbike, can I leave it for you to look after, I will apologise now as it's mid school.
There is a cafe on site selling hot drinks, burgers etc.
See you Sunday

Sorry, I can't make this now as our club as holding the 1st south regional race the Sunday after and I'll be busy getting things ready. Have a great race, and I will be down to ride before the regioanl race there later in the year.
Colin, you're welcome to Merton anytime.
