Restore of my 1996 GT Performer
« on: August 05, 2013, 07:33 AM »
Hi all,
Parents purchased my 1996 GT Performer for me when I was 15, had many great years with it until eventually it has ended up in this sorry state.

Unfortunately we moved house & all our stuff went in to temp storage for a year but my bike was shoved in the shed at my Nans house for about 6 years.

Then It got moved to my parents new house in 2006 where it has been laid up in an outside shed, was only the other week that I remember I still had it, so I dragged it out & decided to restore it.

Old girl not in bad shape still has original stickers, wheels, tyres. I do remember i did change the stem & handlebars when I 1st got it but have no idea where original bits are now.

Any way wish me luck will post pics of progression :)

Thanks Bud yeah should be cool cant wait to ride her again  :daumenhoch:

Here are a few piccies of her 1st drop of daylight, bit of surface rust but hoping it will polish out as dont really want to re-chrome her as has all original stickers in tact.

Will get a few more pics of the disasambly etc...

Ive got a major soft spot for these as this was one of my first bikes that I rode flatland on :)

I managed to pick up one in minty OG condition (apart from tyres) around 12 months ago from a guy that was moving to OZ and couldnt take it with him......ive got a pic but I cant seem to copy and paste photobucket links off my phone.....ill post one up in the morning  :daumenhoch:

Its a shame about your tyres as theyre OG....they look to be pretty worn....doh!
