A ball-burnished 1981 PK Ripper
«

With my other Rippers scattered to the wind, I decided to build another...a keeper this time...a ball-burnished 1981 loop tail. She's gonna be uber shiny with a dash of black and blue.
The frame and forks came from a complete build that I picked up. I've got rid of the parts that I don't need and I'm gradually piecing the bike back together how I want it.
I've kept the MX900s and Tioga headset that came with the frame and forks and I've added a lovely Tuf Neck Pro Model stem that I picked up here from kalex. At the moment I've only got retro Powerwings on there though...
The wheels were gonna be chrome Araya 7x laced to Campy Records, but they seem to have been lost in the fooking post, somewhere over the Atlantic Ocean
so I'll have to wait and see what happens there...
The cranks are gonna be late 70's first gen Shimano Dura-Ace arms and a 42T Tuf Neck chain ring on a YST Pro Sealed bottom bracket. I've picked up some nice, used XC-IIs too.
Here's a parts breakdown of what I have or have coming so far:
FRAME:
1981 PK RIPPER (BALL-BURNISHED)
FORKS:
LANDING GEAR (UNSTAMPED)
HANDLEBARS:
SE POWER WINGS (RETRO)

CHAIN RING:

RIMS:
ARAYA 7X
HUBS:

TYRES:
MITSUBOSHI RAINBOW LABEL COMP III
FREEWHEEL:
SHIMANO MX30 16T
BRAKES:

GRIPS:
SM RACING ODI MUSHROOMS
SEAT:
NOS KASHIMAX AERO (1982)
SEAT POST CLAMP:

This is going to be an absolute beaut Neil
Only things I would change on your parts list , at a later date ,or when you can of course
are the bars and tyres for early 80's ones , then it'll be 100% pukka
Definately keeping an eye for updates on this

Coooooooooool..
Sure does have the makings of a great looking Ripper
And pretty much any colour combo works on a burnished frame so if you get bored just change a few things round to make a complete now look.
Also to add to what Christian say's I'd change the seat post decal too

Thanks for the feedback guys.
I do have my eye on some early SE bars, but they are mighty spendy. Unfortuately, all of my builds need early tyres
I will get there one day.

Got me pedals
I've got a blue ano Tuf Neck power disc on the way. I'm going to see what that looks like on the cranks, just to get some colour in amongst all that shine.

Nice up to now.

She's
mostly
together now, with the parts I have anyway. The Powerwings are now vintage, unknurled. I may switch the wheels out for blue shiny side Arayas with sunshine 2nd Gen hubs and plonk a blue Tuf Neck chain ring on at some point.
This is my ride for the spring/summer

Just spent my lunch hour on the PK, bombing round the dirt track on the backlot at Leavesden Studios. I need a kip.

Thanks mate. I've got my pads and made a few changes... I swapped the blue grips and seat post clamp for black and swapped the blue Kashi for a black Shotgun II..
