Curtis on the bay with dodgy seat tube
« on: January 09, 2013, 10:14 PM »
trying to work out whats going on with this, the hole/slot in the seat tube is obvious, but it looks like the seat post and seat tube are one, if you know what i mean? I cant see a where the seat tube ends above the top tube and where the seat post slides in. Wierd!

Seller hasn't answered my questions  :-\

Any thoughts?

Top of seat tube has been cut flush with the top tube, hence the seat clamp is half way between the bb and the top tube  :'(
Sixteen thirty-two. What is that? A year?   No, it's your top score on Pole Position.

Exactly what I thought. It's broken off at the top, they cut a slot below so it would crimp when done up with a clamp  :uglystupid2:

This is what i feared you might say and why the seller is avoiding answering my questions. Aswell as cleverly cutting that area out of the pics. Such a shame that its been butchered like this.
Repairable though, as long as the seller is honest about whats up with it.  ::)

Anything can be fixed, but in this case it would be a labour of love and given the price its at currently, probably not worth it  :-\

I would say a complete seat mast replacement to be honest if you want the strength back. I'm sure the masters on here could do it but as Clint says, the price would out do the frame set unless you want it for a keeper  :daumenhoch:

Exactly, not really worth it at that money. I live 5 miles from Brian Curtis so could've got it fixed quite easily.

Now you can call me synical, but i think its more than a coincidence that i just got this message from the seller

"Dear martin.p46,

hi matesorry im not shore what happened to the frame,i got it off my mate over 20 years ago,and it was like that when i got it

thanks   adam- fullspenny"

Playing dumb? when your listing of parts is vey accurate and seems to show a bit of knowledge for what you have.  ::)

Bid up a few quid too  :-X

Unfortunately you know that's a bid from someone that hasn't noticed.

I sent him a message about the mast and also didn't get a reply...

Even in his retarded Q&A response he doesn't really address it...

You all making out like its unfixable. The wheels are worth 100 minimum .cw bars 60 . Sr stem 20 . Dx pedals 50 .crank 30 . Sawzall would make child's play of that seat post . I'd give 200 for it no bother
Old School BMX only

At least 4 or 5 of us have agreed its repairable. But at what cost? Bare in mind that these frames are brased, not welded, very few people around that can do this well.
Brian says that to restore the frame's strength and integrity, the whole seat tube would need replacing and to achieve that, the rear stays would need to be removed first and then replaced. A lot of labour and a lot of steel. Not gonna be cheap.

the tube can be repaired and can be extended easily. that would take a decent fabricator an hour or so provided he left the grinding to the customer ! would nt bust the bank !
