Wal riot build thread
« on: September 09, 2012, 09:26 AM »
With all this talk of riots think mine is going to leap frog my other projects and be my focus point. Thought I would start a build thread on this one as its not just going to be a simply bolt together build.
Bought off the bay a few years back. It was a complete bike but had just been bolted together with crap parts. Had also been listed badly don't think that many people saw it or just thought it was to much of wreak To bother buying ;D
It's got dents, its been part sprayed in (quite distinctive anyone recognise it?) and the only thing original left was the frame. Found a pic of it when I stripped it down, I will be digging it out and some of the parts I have already collected later and phoning round some chromers tomorrow!

Looks to be an early 2nd Gen. 1st gen didnt have a coaster mount and this one does. 990's were optional from 91-92, and were standard in 93.

So at a guess Id say this is a 91 model or an early 92.

A little up date, thanks to mid school Jon I now have a proper bash guard! Rather than a gt one ??? Also managed to get up in the in laws loft today to dig out the 2hip forks that someone sorted me on here a year or so ago, can't remeber who but thanks  :daumenhoch:

On a sader note saw the current state of my collection and almost brought a tear to my eye, lol. I need to move so I can display these properly

Also found these, they came on my 94 master from the states. The guy in the shop kindly donated them from off his own bike. They are S&M pitch/ditch? Forks with xposure leg graphics.

You do indeed, i got it off fraz4130 a good year and a half ago and still not got round to doing anything with it! This is probably my favourite and got big plans for it but was last in so going to finish the S&M and wal first.

Hi all, managed to get a bit of time to work on the frame this week. I carefully scraped back part of one of the painted areas to my suprise the chrome looked pretty good!  After getting a bit of advice from midschooljon I purchased some oxalic acid from the bay and some paint stripper from wickes.

I set about coating the painted areas in the paint stripper

It said to leave it for about half an hour but to be honest it didn't start to do anything for about an hour then it all started to pickle!

It all got a bit messy at this point! After some careful stripping and much to my disappointment the chrome had Infact been rubbed down and worse than that it looks like some sort of etch primer has been used! A bit better than my old rattle can efforts as a kid!
I spent a good few hours with some fine wire wool taking off as much as I could but run out of time. What I was left with looked more like a raw finish than chrome! and there is still a good few hours work left stripping yet.

All but given up on any of the chromers getting back to me! If anyone knows of a good one who wants the work please let me know!

Try RS chromers. They got back to me quickly and if you explain it is a "Show Bike" they will put a lot of work in to make sure it comes out right. Dont expect it to be cheap though.  :LolLolLolLol:
But if you going to do it you may as well do it right.  :daumenhoch:

otherwise just send it to SBD for a top quality powder Job (not chrome powder of course but a colour).  8)

Cheers mate, I have just sent rs chromers an email but now you have me thinking about colours! All sorts of ideas at the mo but would like to keep original really. Maybe like this little beauty!
