Why are the bars bent like that on the crossbar though, is there a reason for it ????

Andy

Cook Bros said that the reason for the bend in the bars is for perfect lever position, remember when they designed the bars bitd there were a lot of pre-bent levers or 2 fingered ones, so they could be placed correctly without hitting the cross bar.

First of all that is a beautilul bike. A perfect example of the 'technology' of early BMX.

I do not remember when 'pre-bent' levers hit the market but in the early days we bent our own. In the picture below you can see Stu using Redline V bars with a custom bent lever that actually came from a motorcycle. It was longer than the standard brake lever (and much stiffer) and it could be reached easily while being mounted under the cross bar.
I am on the left in the picture and I am using a Dia Comp lever that I bent myself and it is mounted down into that area where the crossbar is bent.

Thank you for your kind words about my bike Dennis, really chuffed that you would like it.

I remember bending levers myself as a kid (well my Dad did it for me really, LOL).

That is such a cool shot of you bitd.

Absolutely stunning   :smitten: :smitten:

One of my earliest memories of BMX lust, having seen one in 'Alpine Sports' in Kensington (circa 1979), i remember feeling quite cheated with my Redline mx2  :'(

Way ahead of their time, design icon.

Well firstly I's like to say... Great stand  :coolsmiley: ;D It's about time you lot started to follow the trend of pimping your stands  ::)

Anyway back to the bike,  Awsome classic looking Cook Bros Sean  :4_17_5: You know I'm a fan of these (must be to have 2 of them  ^"^) but they are serious pieces of work. Massive pedigree from BITD and you've got this build bang on, as I told you a while ago the chain ring's not my thing but it's exactly how you wanted it and straight from the mag. The yanks would be very proud of this one pal  :4_17_5:

Cheers Sean, i didn't know that but now you have said it, it would make perfect sense.
One build a year, the only way to get it right. No rushing involved.
