more than likely someone did the serial number without realising it was the wrong side

just like some frames came with and without gussets

I have no idea how the early format frame numbers worked.

All I can say is that frame is defo an early one cos its got the old format. Not sure what frame it is tho $:-\$

This one has the text all in one line but the numbers seem more like the old format

I've got a feeling that the older "2 line" format of frame numbers were frames made at GT.
I think the GT frames also tended to have tubes for the seatstay and chainstay brace, rather than one (or both) of them being plates.
