Rock hard nuts.....
« on: July 12, 2012, 09:22 PM »
I have an SR one piece stuck on a GT Power Disk that I bought from the US....

I cannot shift it with a giant spanner, I cannot shift it with blow torch heat, large spanner and vice

In fact its officially stuck! I even took a chisel to it today and it was hardened so the bugger would not move......

Where do you take these things? I am not even sure what tools someone could use...

All help appreciated!!

id probably try a lump/club/mini sledge hammer on the spanner end or if all else fails the bike shop where they have loads of big park tools spanners and appropriate work bench!

Apply some physics to the equation  :daumenhoch: find a long steel tube that will fit over your spanner and the extra leverage should pop it off no problem  ;)
Sixteen thirty-two. What is that? A year?   No, it's your top score on Pole Position.

The spanner I tried today is for a HGV, its about 3 foot long...... did nothing with two of us pushing it! :(

Thanks for Physics tip though - good call!

Try a longer lever  :daumenhoch:

Going to try the longer shaft method.

Failing that - not even sure where could take it to! Maybe a bus depot? Do we still have them in 2012?

Thanks for suggestions. Will see what I can find locally. Engineers or bus depots. Have a feeling that in this quest of man vs. machine, machine wins! :(

Never yet been bested with stuck nuts when i've used a long lever. The creak/ snap sound as it finally gives in to pure science is satisfaction guaranteed  :daumenhoch:

volvo amazon wheel nut
Lambretta kick stand bolt
Datsun 100a exhaust mount bolt

and many others have all resisted wd40, blow torches, diesel, freezing and a few other methods but ALL have secummed to a mighty lever
  >:D >:D >:D  ;D

pour some coke~a~cola on it and and if you can make it stay there, then the coke will loosen the rust which is locking it on  ;)

Thanks Bendycat - do you mean leave soaking in a coke bath?

Would overnight be long enough? Will get 4 litre of coke.

Cheers!!!! :)
