Brake pads for painted wheels - non-screech
« on: May 08, 2012, 06:29 AM »
I waiting for a front white Demolition rim wheel, and started reading about brake pads you can and can't use, or rather which will strip the paint and which won't.

Do I need soft / clear ones? I want to keep the paint on, and want to avoid the screech if possible.

I know people say you get used to it, but whenever I hear it at the park it goes through me.

I used green dia compe blocks on my painted rims, worked great with no squeal, but then they started heating up, ended up melting into the powder coat and locking my brake on!! not a satisfactory result when approaching the 7' quarter at the boardroom!! I am now using clear diamond back blocks from my local shop, pretty good braking and minimal squeal when dialled in properly.

The green ones do work well on bare ally rims though.
