1991 Haro Edge
« on: April 19, 2012, 08:44 PM »
Finally got my hands on one, thanks to ED209º and khebeater telling me that there was one on ebay.

Paid £50 for it, I was the only bidder, if there was no nostalgia attached then it wouldn't of been worth it.

First picture below, this is how I received it.

Came with a Haro labeled Dominator, which is nice.

Going to try and keep it original, so if anyone has good condition parts that I will need or knows of them, LMK  :daumenhoch:

Yeah couldn't go wrong really, a repop Dominator would cost £30 on it's own anyway. The rails are covered in a light coating of surface rust, maybe wet and dry those in place, as I have read that once you take those off they don't go back on again.

The seatpost was rusted in place, which I think is why the seller wouldn't answer my questions about whether the bike would be dismantled for shipping, they couldn't dismantle it! 'm different though, I got the seatpost off without too much trouble!

Thanks again Ed, first one on the bay for 6 months or more.

There are loads of mid school haro parts on the bay, I cant see it being hard sourcing parts for it. Good luck with the build.

I'm glad you didn't or it would have pushed my max bid up, which was a fair bit higher than £50!

Looks like this ebayer is going to earn their first bit of negative feedback, the forks have been cut and there was no mention of this in the auction. I assume this means they are knackered?

I assume I can't run a gyro with this pathetic amount of thread?

I've asked them for an explanation!

You might just! You need to find a really thin middle nut, and run no washers? But not sure

I'd just go with levelling off the threads, and like Olly said use the gyro but don't use the headset washer (or use a real thin one) :)

So cut the top to it's lowest point, so they are straight?

If you can get the top nut on flat if just leave em on! It will give the nut a bit more to bite on to!

I reckon it'll come loose more often if you leave those top two half threads.

Not worth cutting it down and welding a new thread on?

If you've got the welding skills go for it fella  :daumenhoch:

If you're gonna ride it in anger, you'd want to replace the whole steerer tube though I reckon.

As in, re welding the forks to the steerer? Not doing that! But understand the tale of caution! Annoyed that i have to do anything to it! They are going to have to have to give a part refund or recieve the negative feedback.

Guess I could do this, whats the best way to drill the steerer out of the forks?

haro edge never came with a gyro anyway so if your gonna build it up and not fussed about running a gyro you can just tidy up the top of the stearing tube, and run a stright cable, to replace it will be alot of work....same that someone has done that as the early 90s forks are quite hard to get.......good luck mate.

I bought one new in 1991, and it had a gyro on it. One of the only reasons I bought it.

Infact, 3 of us all had the same bikes, and they all had gyro's from new. Seems that some came with gyros and some didn't, but I would like to run a gyro.
