sort of new guy!
« on: November 18, 2011, 12:26 PM »
hey all, signed up on here a few years ago with a flurry of enthusiasm but no job and no funds :D its now the time to rebuild/restore my DP firebird freestyler that i rode bitd.
spec as is. DPfirebird freestyler frame stamped 0999 so its pretty early, fitted with a set of kuwahara exhibitionist forks, and a mix of mid school brakes (dia-comp bulldog) and bars (cut down GT bars- not by me though.) i built this up when i was a kid, sold it when in secondary school, then tracked it down about ten years later and bought it back! been sat in the shed for a few years now, but have decided to pull my finger out and restore it (its chrome not white/coloured) really want a set of wheels for it, and dont know wether to go for repro skyways, or 80's acorns (or even some Z rims) its not a big bucks build, just for sentimental value. any recommendations on wheels would be very welcome.

Matt :)

Love a good DP restore :daumenhoch:
I have Arayas on my DP GL but Skyways are equally as nice or Z's.  I am hot a fan of acorns but maybe some OGK's or Peregrine Graphites would be nice.  What wheels you have BITD is a good way to go and may be more sentimental to you.   :smitten:

Welcome to Rad :4_17_5:

Hello Matt!
Sounds like a fun project.
Whereabouts are you?

As for wheels, can't go wrong with a set of old 36 spoke alloys, especially if you are gonna ride it.

Get it built up, and head along to RAD meet and put it through its paces!

cheers for the welcome guys :) i used to have a set of silver ARAYA aero wheels with black suntour sealed hubs. well, still got the front one, but loaned the bike to my younger brother. he got a puncture and thought he was doing me a favour by putting a new wheel off of a later bike on to it!!! so the rear is missing. suppose a set of 7X rims would do too also (way back) had a set of rims think they came off of a mongoose? looked like 7X araya's but with holes drilled between each spoke? do half decent spoked wheels come up often? liek i said, its not going to be a museum piece or anything, just a tidy fairly period looking ride (been checking out the mx1000 re issues on ebay too... lol)
