1983 GT PRO : Black Chrome Original
« on: August 14, 2011, 12:50 AM »
LOL...YES...This is a NON-Mongoose build by yours truly..!!   :D  ;D

Every now & then I like to change it up a bit and build something out of my comfort zone which is Mongoose...  :)

This is my original finish Black Chrome GT PRO...I've always loved these bikes and I am a sucker for Black Chrome...!!  It is a bit different from the Mongoose Pro Class Black Chrome.  It seems to be a bit thicker and a bit darker as well.

This particular frame set is in amazing condition...so the Black Chrome is still nice and dark.  I have spoken with a great guy who owned a bike shop and was a dealer of GT Bicycles BITD.  He actually still does it to this day.  He told me that the GT Black Chrome finish actually fades over time if it is exposed to Sun and elements.  So...as they fade...they become more of a Brown color.  My frame set is very dark still...but...in the right lighting you can see the Brownish tint to the finish.  I can't seem to get a good picture of what I am talking about so I took a bunch of pictures with my camera on different settings.

Here it is...

Give it to me......I had one bitd, the one Mark Cracknell won the Brits on in 1984 i think, remember the photo in BMX Action Bike where his pedal is clipping the top of the first speed hump at the Greyhound Stadium.I know what you mean about the brown tint,SBD replicated the colour for me using chrome powdercoat and transluscent black top coat and it stil has the brown tint.Love it

Tom, as per usual that is well lush mate.

As Sean says... TC cranks  :smitten: :smitten: and Ambrosio rims  :smitten: :smitten: My Ambrosio rims are going on my Zeronine now.

I'm shocked to see no stickers on the cranks though mate.
One build a year, the only way to get it right. No rushing involved.

Awesome!

Outstanding build as usual Tom!

Finish does look quite a bit darker than the Pro Class for sure.

Very nice.

The GT is defo the best of the black chrome finishes, thanks for the extra pics Atari :daumenhoch:  Love those cranks as well - very different and suit the build perfectly

I remember that pic at the Brits - probably why I wanted one so much! and still a sucker for a GT :uglystupid2:

LOL...Thanks Adam...!!

Yes...these rims are beautiful...they cost me a pretty penny...but NOS sets very rarely pop-up...so...if you ever see a set...I highly recommend grabbing them.

All the best.

Yes...I thought about putting the decals on...but I thought the naked arms would look better...??  I might stick them on there yet though.

Hope all is well.

All the best!

Thanks boys...!!   :daumenhoch:

Yes...I'd love to find an OG straight post for it...could only find a lay-back thought..  :-\  I would really love to have found a straight post & bars in OG Black Chrome...but...I will be on the look out for them..!!

I think those cranks are either 175's or 180's...not sure exactly...I have to take a look at them.

Cheers everyone!
