Hi
POS - acronym meaning "Piece of Shit". Commonly used as reference to non-NT based windows operating systems such as Windows 95/98 and ME or to software that just doesn't do what it should or is very unreliable.
piece of shit n 1. an item of poor quality. ("That car is a piece of shit.") Note: also used as an insult, as in "You little piece of shit." Submitted by Darien Reece, FL, USA, 5-6-1997. displeasing insults (list of)
I heard about in the 80's on studio equipment though, so old gear would be labled as POS 1, POS 2 etc in the patch bay.

cheers ruler, that is mostly a survivor i got from the states with a few new bits added like seatpost and cables and wheels, haven't touched the frame at all, all paint and decals are original. was lucky to get that. yeh the fs-1 is pretty much the same bike isn't it, just without the platform bits near the seat tube.
