Z Rims or Skyways? DP Freestyler
« on: May 05, 2011, 09:42 PM »
Hi all - I know its personal choice but:  Not sure if I should put my black Skyways onto my new DP.  The Skyways are in fabbo condition and they have the flanged hubs that I prefer.  This is my new bike:

and these are the Skyways (picture does not do them justice - they really are in A1 condition):

As a kid I hated Z Rims so that is pretty much my driver.  Plus, by selling the Zs I will bring down the cost of my new bike which cost me £650 :( and I want it to be a rider, not museum bike..

Also, will Skyways increase the weight much?  Im going to swap the wheels over at the weekend and ill weight before/after.  Until then I cant ride my new bike as I dont want to spoil the Zs rim graphics before/if I decide to sell them..

Obviously Iwont put the ugly tires on the new bike!!

thoughts?

Paul

just chipping in, and clearly Im bias, but feck is the DP Firebird a sexy mofo!  As a kid, all I dreamt about was a Haro Freestyler - had not even heard of DP.  But now, I think the DP is far sexier.  It has all the haro qualities that I loved but, the lower profile just makes me want to rape it (in a romantic kind of rape-way)..

..back to the Z v Skyways discuss..

Deffo skyways if your gonna ride it, they flex enough, but z's will be mental flexy, they were bad enough with a kids weight bitd, but with a grown up, badly doing tricks.....

If you ride it a lot, then i'd lose the skyways too, spokes, or new tuffs (get the fake ally hub caps) to stop you breaking your nice old ones, you'll be sick as a parrot if you see the tiny cracks around the hubs start to  appear!!

Just my feelings, its your bike, and very nice it is too!

I've been through this dilema many times and the best answer I've found is as above, ie buy a set of brand new, sealed bearing hubs for £60 off ebay, stick a set of false hub caps on them and reide the fookas as you will eventually crack the proper o/s ones or the hubs will pull in :-\

Currently I'm riding a couple of sets of well tensioned Araya 7X's for normal or track riding and a set of new sealed Tuffs for skateparks. I've bought a set of RadKaps to give them the o/s look and whilst the Tuffs do flex more, for 60 notes a set, who cares as they look fookin' ace :smitten:

Just my personal opinion :coolsmiley:
Still limping......

I agree with most, I think the Zs look much better, but it will be a waste of them if you're going to ride it & a waste of money.

The bike looks sweet  :4_17_5: :4_17_5:

Hey - good idea.  So, false hub caps - not seen/heard of these before.  Anyone got a link to where I can buy/look at them..??

Thanks for the links.  I think those pretend hubs are cool (I really dont like the look of the plastic hubs).

Will be doing lots of thinking over the weekend..
