Removing a Freewheel
« on: April 27, 2011, 09:00 PM »
Peeps,

Any tips on removing a freewheel that feels like it has been welded on?   :tickedoff:

Is the correct tool essential (I think I can answer that myself), and if so, does anyone have a four toother they can lend me? Happy to cover postage in both directions and I only need it for probably 1 minute!  :daumenhoch:

All input gladly received by this nOoB!  :-[

Thanks,

Clean.  :daumenhoch:

You'll prob need more than just the tool. Last one I had stuck fast I had to put on the tool, screw an axle nut and washer on the the axle to fix it in position then clamp the tool in a vice and turn the wheel. Never been able to remove one from an old wheel with just the tool  :-\

I made my own, cut up a cheap socket, worked well ;)

more than happy to send you the tool to have a go if you want.

I usually clamp the tool in a vice and slot the wheel in on top then use the leverage of the wheel to turn  :)

Stick a MTB Wheel skewer through the tool as an axle and that will hold the tool in then vice it and turn the wheel  :daumenhoch:

Peel Park BMX track
North View Road, Bradford BD3 0NF
It's between Bolton Road and Cliffe Road. Drive right up the winding track until you find the BMX track. Best time is between 6:45 & 8pm.

I'll be there next 2 Thursdays for definite - I'll be the only Jon around (probably on a black Felt cruiser), also from Rad and likely to be there are: Andy (Rooski), Paul (Phizzman), Greg (Motomag II) and Richie (Richie4, usually goes on Tuesdays). Just ask around.

Jon
