Author Topic: dp Firebird freestyler gl+ What do i do? (Read 6433 times)

I got my dp firebird gl+ out of my dads garage the other day. It used to be neon pink but then had it chromed in the mid 80s. Its got the dp ladder bars, acs mini mountain brake levers, mx1000 calipers, sugino one piece crank, black tuff twos, elina lay back post and akron seat. Its a real shame to part with my much loved bike along with its many memories!!!! Problem is the frame and forks, ive cleaned them up but the chrome is pitted in places. So what do i do? Do i get it blasted and rechromed or powder coated or is that somthing a buyer would prefer to do themselves? I dont know.... any ideas?

Sell it as it is

Even if you break it down into individual parts and sell them like that
You should get some interest in the Bars

Its up to you mate... do you want to keep it and get it back to its former glory... which means 'spending money' or do you want to sell it as is... frame is worth decent money... ladder bars are rare as fook ... which means you can make some good money if you sell.

Do you want the cash or the memories? once its gone its gone though eh.

My original pink DP was stolen which was gutting... but my Brother in law gave me his DP and I restored that ... loved doing it... got fully involved with everyone on this site and I'm now addicted to riding and building bikes again

Its your call dude... whats the most important to you? No-one will judge you whatever call you make

Wish I still had this sat in my garage though...

. You will honestly regret it once it has gone. My DP was also stolen, back in 1988

, had been repainted in a stunning rich blue colour and some git nicked it. Would LOVE another DP and will make it happen this year.

them ladder bars are worth a very tidy sum of around £50 so as a gesture of good will i will offer you £60

KEEP IT mine also got nicked in the 80's and it always pissed me off when ever I thought about it. Got a gl last year and defo wont be selling it.

well, just sold my ladder bars for £250, I would keep it if its your original bike, get some pictrues up too, I'll add them to the dp web site

I'd love some dp forks, let alone some bars, let alone A GL+ ........ so: in case you don't really HAVE to sell, and you see a slight possibility that you might like to bmx in the future ..................................

Thanks for all the input. My missus says to you all ...... stop tempting him to keep it, its got to go!!!!!! .....she wants the garden sorted so it looks as though its gonna go some time soon. Watch this space. P.S Keeping the bike and ditching the missus isnt an option she's a better ride any day no i'm not posting any pictures you'll just have to take my word for that........... AWESOME i had to write that she's sitting beside me

Once you have one bike you'll start searching Ebay and before you know it your hooked and all of a sudden you have 2,3, 4.......

I cant believe how pussy whipped you must be, its only one fooking bike, just stick it in the loft. Ive got about 10 in my shed and about 12 in the loft and she never says a word. I brought a new bike home the other day and she just laughed then i put it in the loft, she never goes up there so she'll hardly ever see it again.
