rear hub recommendations
« on: October 28, 2010, 11:30 PM »
I want a new rear cassette hub, but I want one that has either a cone and a lock nut, or a cone that has a grub screw to lock it in place (ala bullseye)
I was thinking demolition/colony/primo/shadow

Suggestions?

ive got a proper rear hub (2009 ceramic bush one)  and in a year of having it ive not had one problem, never seems to skip, driver still spins smooth etc.... and im sure the cone nut is held on with a grub screw on the non drive side and the drive side has a lock nut

my mate has a demolition mary kate (i think) and thats had no probs in 2 years, it maybe skips once in a while but thats it really

Top 3 Most reliable by sales vs returns numbers:

- Gsport Ratchet
- Primo Mix
- Odyssey V3

As Alex says the new Animal one looks frickin awesome - but it'll be the new year before we see them.

Also the latest Proper Cassette is moving up the ranks. The one your mate exploded was a couple of generations ago.

Quite like the look/build of the latest Bicycle Union cassette too, but too early to rate reliability.

if reliability is key steer clear of the ratchet,
I have owned a proper hub and we also sell lots of them too so can vouch for them, hands down, I would still go for the Union, i dont think its to early to rate it at all
