1983 Ammaco - Mongoose Wire Wheel (FINISHED)
« on: August 29, 2010, 02:00 PM »

WARNING ! Budget build  :LolLolLolLol:

Well I hadn't planned on owning a wirewheel since they weren't actually made by BMX Products Inc. but instead by Ammaco under license for the UK market but I ended up getting this survivor as part of a "2 bike deal" with someone last year for a nice price.

It even had it's original brake pads and tyres !

Frame was in decent shape and the dropouts look like the rear wheel has never been off.

The tyres where a bit worn though so they got replaced as did the brake pads, scuffed grips and worn padset (had a nice original 84 survivor set so they went on) also replaced the scuffed generic levers with some NOS DC ones.

Everything else just got a good clean and polish and here is the result..........

Pretty much 99% factory spec.......

Nice, tidy little build that Jon  :daumenhoch:.

I always remember reading that some of our American cousins suggested that Ammaco had "illegally" used the Mongoose name with regard to these models, shame some of them have no idea of the truth  :LolLolLolLol:

i asked in the interview with skip
pretty sure nothing got past either skip or malcolm though

http://www.vintagebmx.com/community/index.php'showtopic=4005290

What are your memories of the Mongoose/Ammaco set up over here in the UK?

Skip: My friend & customer Malcolm Jarvis, Ammaco CEO performed a great job promoting & selling Mongoose in the UK. I have fond memories of my visits to Ammaco.
cheers Kev

Yeah I think good old "Astro" isn't a fan of the Ammaco-Goose  :LolLolLolLol:

Ahh well bit of UK history - I'm sure many a kid rolled round the streets on one BITD  :)

Cheers lads  :daumenhoch:

Same rate Dan - one a month  :)

are those forks ammaco then

Yes Mark - nothing to do with mongoose these forks mate - but they are correct for this Ammaco made frame.

I think they may have used these forks on some of the other Ammaco budget models like the 202 or the early version of the silver star  :-\

Top work again John , do like a nice survivor . The original bike shop sticker is a nice touch too  :daumenhoch:

It might be a budget build but like your other geese you have nailed it and it's a worthy addition to the collection imo  ;)

No need to issue a warning over a budget build John, I love a cheapo build. :coolsmiley:

Nice little survivor there, agree with Joff about the dealer sticker, lovely added history there. :daumenhoch:
