Newbie help, Mongoose???
« on: August 10, 2010, 10:45 AM »
Hi there, just rediscovered my love for the BMX,
I bought some frames off a guy local to me just to knock up a couple of bmxs for me and my lad to muck around with over the holidays, he happened to be one of you guys out there showed me some pics of his amazing bikes and told me about this site, since then I've just been in awe at all the bikes and resto skills on here. I started to ask around for something a bit more interesting, when a guy that used to work for me said i could have an old BMx he had for £10. I believe its a Mongoose, not sure what model though. Serial number is M4-H18**. Be easy with me only just getting back into all this stuff.
Heres somes pics anyway, I'm sure some of you guys can point me in the right direction.
Thanks in advance.

Welcome to Rad  :daumenhoch:

Try VintageMongoose.com, this site has seriel numbers, dropout and gusset pictures so should help. Looking at it, it might be a Mongoose M1 but i'm sure some Mongoose collectors will soon let you.

That's a 1984 Californian or Expert. Odds are that it's a Cali of it's of UK heritage.

Chromoly Front triangle. Hi-tenseile steel back end.

Thanks for that info, that gives me something to go by now as to how it should look. I'm gonna bring it up to scratch and use it now.
Thanks for all the help and info, shall get the spanners out tomorrow and start stripping it.

Hi, the BB and headset are stamped Tange.
Thanks, i hope this helps identifies it a bit more now. The only original sticker remaining is the one on the top tube by the headset, it says: Chromoly main frame. Built with professional motocross engineering and race proven geometry.
Thanks again.

Sorry 'bout the red-herrings I threw earlier then. I'll leave the Goose spotting to the experts from now on.

Looking forward to seeing this resto progress (if that's your plan)  :daumenhoch:
