S&M Ditchforks with mysterious crown race...

Got these on a bike and can't work out what's going on with the crown on them
I've taken the crown off them and this is what's left


There's some kind of second race that was visible on the bike because it sat below the other!

But it looks like(if I ever managed to get it off) there's two different diameter steps to fit 2 different crowns onto

They're 1" threaded Ditchforks........gimme some ideas fellas!!!!

Cheers Glen...I could put a crown on there no problem, in fact I took one off!

It'd sit fine against that other crown thing. The steerer actually steps up a size just where that thingy is sat....so the race can sit on top of that...although it obviously looks a bit odd

I think I'll just try cutting it off but certainly there's something wierrrrd goin on!

Well the aparent second crown was just mushed steerer tube, someone has used the forks without a crown

I chisled off the overhanging metal and filed it smooth....unbelievable how it molded the steel like putty and made it look like a completely separate metal ring.

Anyway mystery solved

Never seen that before...
Having studied the picture for a while, I concluded that they had been interfered with by a MONG.
Good job to get 'em back usable without spending any £ or ruining them tho dude....
