9/16 thread size tap needed

heres my problem ,,,,,i got some nos painted bullseye cranks ,,

im going to get them striped and chromed ,,,so i thought id try some pedals on them first ,the threads are tight as a nuns c4nt

there was paint finish in the threads so i paint striped the threads ,,,i tried some skyway pedals in them ,,no joy ,,,,some repo hutch pedals ,no joy
some xcII's,, no joy ,,they seem to go in a couple of mm but totally tighten up

some cheapo vectors ,,,bingo ,,but i dont want to fit these into them ,,,but the maxycross cranks these came out of also take the other pedals i tried in the bullseyes   

so the point im trying to get to is ,,,are there different types of 9'16 threads ie 26tpi,,unc,,bsf 

im thinking of re taping them

Dont think you would get away with it. Unless you wanted to use 1/2 pedals. When I've used helicoils in the past you have to make the hole bigger to accept the coil. So you would probably have to drill out the original thread to re-cut a new thread for the coil.
I would try running a tap down the thread. Although a left handed tap might be difficult to track down.

my miss reading  i thought they was pooped  a bike company in kent sells all the taps you will need

what i really need to know is are they ,,,,bsw ,,,,,bsf,,,,28tpi ,,,,12tpi ,,,,,unc,,,,unf,,,,,


think i might just go down the local engineering shop ,,take the pedals i want to fit to them with the cranks

Didn't some 3 piece cranks have 1/2" threads   i know they weren't that common but do remember them  
Have you tried an 1/2" pedal in them

9/16" pedal taps are all the same thread 20tpi.  I have a set of pedal taps if you want to borrow them the gay pensioner.
