Braintree BMX Club
Regional Race report – round 6

Braintree BMX Club played host to round 6 of the East Anglian BMX summer series on Sunday with almost 100 riders taking part. Despite the rain and mud which made the conditions particularly hard going all the riders managed to complete their racing with the large Old Skool class going to semi finals as well.

The younger end of the expert classes saw Josh Peters and Tom Stokes competing in the 6 and under class, with Josh riding exceptionally well and remaining unbeaten all day boosting his points in the series. Not far behind was Tom who came back from a fall in his first moto to finish fourth.

The combined 7 + 8 class saw George Schwedt-Moret, Shane Redgewell and Joshua Legrove fighting for a place in the A final and all achieving this easily. George finished third overall, with Shane in fifth and Joshua eighth following a fall in the final.

The combined 9 + 10 group had 9 riders meaning 1 would miss out on a final, however the 4 riders from Braintree were all safe and Max Waghorn finished in first place with Lee Golder in second, Matthew Prior in fourth and Shane Pavitt in eighth.

Connah Wilson and Taylor Andrews fought their way through the 11/12 class with Connah finishing second and Taylor on his tail third. Further down the pack was Thomas Hall who also made the main final finishing sixth.

The large group of 13/14 year old riders was dominated by riders from Braintree with Sam Aves finishing a brilliant second and Riess Harper on his tail in third and Will Elsey in fourth. Oliver Cutmore, Chris Potter. Richard Whiting and Leon Dixon also took part in this group with Oliver finishing in sixth, Chris Potter in seventh, and Richard Whiting in eighth. Leon did not make the A final however, unperturbed went on to win the B with Ryan East joining him and finishing fifth.

The 15/16 riders were mixed with the 30+, 17+ and Masterclass to make for an exciting race group. Bradley Watts was slow to start but made the A final where he finished second with 30+ rider Stu Dixon on his tail in third. Matt Kirk finished fourth ahead of Ashley Hall in fifth, Charles Moret in sixth and Thomas Elvin in seventh following a fall.

The cruiser riders were all together in one big group and leading the way all day was James Goodwin who was followed by Lee East in second, Thomas Elvin in third and Matthew Sewell, returning to racing after a break, finishing fourth. Jamie Clarke was also in this group and finished eighth.

The girls were also together and were led all day by Nicola Reed who was completely unbeaten. Natalie Miller followed her across the line in third with Paige Elvin in fifth and Kelsy Dixon in sixth.

The Old Skool riders all rode well, even if it was with much huffing and puffing. Out of the 19 riders the two Braintree riders found themselves in the middle of the pack and Tony Waye finished third and Lee Allen fourth.

The next round of this series is in 2 weeks time at Norwich. In the meantime anyone wishing to race at Braintree can do so on a Wednesday evening from 7pm at the moment. For more information please call 01376 346523.
