Building an old school race bike

Building a new 2013 Skyway Ta but kinda going down the race build route.

Front brake or no front brake? :-)

It uses a V brake so no need for a front, if you set the rear up correctly (and don't use Tuffs) you'll stop no problem and it'll look much cleaner

Neither, go for a coaster and enjoy the thrills of randomly going over the bars

  Why is this here? It`s a newschool racebike so no front and a v on the rear.

For the guy who said "Why's this here it's new school" Technically it's not entirely!!

Yeah it has some new twists added that set it apart from the Original Classic Ta (Top tube, Bb, V-Brake rear stays, Threadless forks) but i'd say it's a meld of old / new school.

If there was no option of having a front brake there would be no hole for an old school caliper on the front surely lol

  Just my tuppence worth....Most newschool forks have a hole in the crown but not for a caliper really.It`s your ride,build what makes you happy.If you`re going for an oldschool look then a front brake is fine.

Fair Comment... I'm kinda going of course a little now lol.

Bought this Ta as it was always my dream bike as a kid and as i've already built a Freestyle rider I thought i'd build the Ta up as a race bike and hit some tracks...

I'd bought a load of bits before the frame and forks arrived and now i'm kinda wanting to change stuff etc so kinda going off the beaten track.

I'd bought a front calliper but when I fitted it the centre bolt isn't long enough so before ordering a longer one thought....mmm does it need a front brake?

Guess i'm going for a New / Old School build hopefully taking the best from both :-))

My race Retrogoose has a v on the back and stops mighty quick so no need for a front imho. Keeps the bike less cluttered too.....

Front if you're running old school calipers mind - we wiegh a hell of a lot more than we did in 1982.....

I think they drill the forks on completes as they have to provide a front brake by law

Tried getting a Dia-Compe Nippon front on there the other day but the forks are well beefy so was gonna have to order a longer Centre bolt.

Think I wont bother and just run with a rear V :-)

That's fair comment, that's what I was planning on doing as well but this new Ta has got super beefy forks which would have meant getting a longer centre bolt etc etc.. gonna go with just a rear for now and see how things go :-)
