Profile Bearings
« on: September 10, 2008, 09:42 PM »
Hi All

Can anyone tell me what size and where i go for some gen 2 profile crank bearings.

The spindle is 19mm and the inside of the cups appear to be 41.3mm Not sure what thickness i need and what actual outside diameter bearings i need. In a hurry as well as its for the bike i am building for Macmillan on the 21st. All mad panic now as i have left it till the last minute  :tickedoff: :uglystupid2:

have you got the old bearings, if you have there should be a ref no. on the side something like    6004 2rs.
The 6004 refers to the bearing size and the 2rs refers to the no of rubber seals. If you put the 6004 number into ebay some should come up.

they are imperial bearings
3/4, not 19mm, they are 19.050mm, which is 3/4 of an inch

Cool. Thanks for the info. Any idea what size the outside needs to be and the thickness?

Cheers

Right got some sitting on my desk, (Thanks Mr.Chubs) the bearing no. is R12-RS.
None on UK ebay, like someone said above US imperial bearings, could ship 50 in for a about a £1 a bearing  Alans ask's £16 for 2 bearings and a spacer tube or about £19 for a coloured Mid BB kit.
I am going to try my local bearing shop. I have had a look on the net. Searched for R12 2RS

Be sure to buy yourself german, british or japanese bearing NOT chinese and they'll last a whole lot longer......  Last time I got some I think they were about £8 each for top quality ones   :)

try midland bearings, for they are the cheapest bearing supplier in the whole world

and when you ring up, they know what you are talking about

especially when you can now cross reference the quoted bearing number with their listing
r12 2rs
http://www.midlandbearings.com/Rseries.htm

so when you ring up say
-hello, I would like to purchase some 'R' series bearings
i'd like 'x' amount of R12 2 RS please

they will say, ok thats the 3/4 'bore' = 'i-d'=inner dimension/  1-5/8  o-d ,= outer dimension / 7/16 overal width.

you say yes please, thank you.

oh and with regards the spacer doobery, you simply find a bit of old tubeing, that has a bore of 19.050 - 3/4 inch, buy a 2.99 pipe slice or pipe cutter, and make 10
-plus you can 'dial your bb in, so the bearings won't crush - ie old seat post tube 22.2, which is an imperial measure ment has the 3/4 inner bore

-plus if you go to a motor factors, you can buy ''cam bucket shims' with the 3/4 bore - id' and get the chain line stupidly correct as they are o.osmiidge plus the innner spacer tightness can be gotten rid of

ok so i am bored and can't sleep, :LolLolLolLol:

ok, so i am not rambling on now, nut

TAKE NOTE - BEWARE!!!!!

if you take a tube spacer that came a euro bb and try fitting it into a usa bb
-they are different

also the other way around too

-one is too big one too small

-this is probablyy the reason why they get fackered up, as on the one hand the spacer is too long and the cups wont go in
-on the other the euro is too short and they pull the bearing races over as you tighten the arms
 :LolLolLolLol:

again you can pipe slice 2mm off one to fit - be careful though
 :LolLolLolLol:

I have priced profile bearings at bearing factors they range from 8 to 25 notes each depending on quality which is annoying because a similar size metric bearing is about 90p. You can buy six R12 2RS bearings off the bay from the states for 11 quid posted.
