Mongoose / ammaco Id help please
« on: October 13, 2013, 01:13 PM »
Hi all,
First post so apologies for green ness!!
I've just got into bmxing again and have bought what I believe to be a mongoose wire wheel.
Didn't pay a lot for it so don't think it's anything special.
Does appear to have a lot of original parts apart from a pair of acorn mags
Frame no on bottom bracket is 7197617 but no letters so don't think it's an original goose, either a copy or maybe an ammaco?
If anyone can shed any light on it that would be very much appreciated
Pics shortly but hasn't arrived yet!
Not a looptail frame, has the brace behind headset if that helps?

Looks like its a wire wheel, not super rare or valuable. It's pretty patinated but has gnarly original grips and peeling chrome etc but seems unmolested.
Will post pics once I get the hang of my iPad!
I'm going to use it so no resto planned and am really going to enjoy it 2nd time round (42 yrs young!)
Thanks for your help and thanks for the welcome!!

Did it! ( a sorry all, just got an iPad and  am still learning!
Looks similar frame to johns earlier pic apart from his seems to have a looptail or is it my eyesight!
Still new to everything but I understand that mine isn't really a true Mongoose  as they were made under licence by ammaco. Am I correct here? Bike hasn't arrived yet so just going on this picture. Ant help much appreciated! Whatever it is I still love it!!!

The wire wheel was built by ammaco for mongoose, the also did the Grand Prix ...decals aren't correct but you can get some repop ones on bmx products website . I used the 82-82 mongoose set on mine...

They did a chrome and a painted version. Mongoose grips , 3 arrows chainring, sr 468's , rigida rims ..etc

Low spec but 80's bmx nonetheless  :daumenhoch: I have a few parts if you are interested .

Many mongoose came with acorn mags. If they are ammaco stamped they are pretty hard to come by.  :)

Thanks guys, I think the decals are original. It's round an 82 or 82 model from what the seller tells me.
Have no reason to doubt him, he's has the bike from new
Thanks for the ammaco wheels tip, I'll check when it arrives hopefully we'd eve this week!
Jaypeg, if you could pm with what you've got that would be appreciated
Orig owner tells me that it came with wire wheels and upgraded to mags later on.
Thanks again everyone,  and thank you for humouring a newbie:-)
