At what point did bmx companies decide to make bikes more robust? The reason I ask is 'cause I had a Mongoose Pro from a few years back and it had a seat clamp with 2 bolts! Why on earth would a seat clamp need to clamp that tight.I think I've seen them with 3 bolts. The frame also had massive rear dropouts as well- oh and the top tube went downt to the rear brake and the seat stays overlapped and came uppast the seat tube. Fookin' hell, no wonder it was heavy..

I think its like most things, there is a steady progression, someone comes up with a new way to make something stronger & the rest follow, then they work out ways to make them lighter while still keeping them strong. I think one of the best inventions in bikes in the past twenty years or so is the Ahead stems, forks & headsets. I have never had a threaded headset on any bike that did not keep coming loose :(
