nice :daumenhoch:
where'd ya get that from
-
:-X :LolLolLolLol:
No.... a bloke on ebay. He listed it late at night and i pounced! He had it for about 5 years and never did anything with it. His dad used to own Meteorlite bmx back in the 80's and apparently his Dad also sold Oddysey about 10 years ago. He was moving to New York so sold it.
-
So tempted to build it with nylon washers but i built my other one that was NOS and ended up putting washer marks on it quite bad in the rear drops! Regret it now.
-
Nick use plastic washers
-
Phheeww they're all around those NOS TA then, I mean .... around Nick's house :LolLolLolLol:
-
Those dropouts are nuts. You can see why there were so many problems when people (Dirt Bros) tried to use run big pegs on those frames to do grinds. No wonder they all snapped off.

I know that the TA was a dual purpose bike but i tend to think that Skyway made the TA for race. They were lucky as their Tuff wheels probably instigated the TA being used for freestyle too. Awesome beautiful frames. :smitten:
-
Nick you've done it again!!!!!!! great find mate :daumenhoch:
-
Impressive - thanks

I think your right and I'm fairly sure the TA was about before the first pegs made an appearance.
Talking of the dropouts didn't Hoffman end up in a coma after the dropouts broke off his TA forks? (or was it streetbeat forks)
Nice frameset all the same.
-
mint frame set very good spot .

Too right they did. The TA was always a race frame. How important is aero tubing for freestyle anyway? I think they HAD to have a freestyle team cos they were THE freestyle wheel, and the only thing they had to put them on was the TA frame.
(oh sh1t, have I opened that can of worms again? sorry)
-
Totally agree.
-
freestyle in the 80s was all about the double top tube, hence the awful add on that skyway came out with.
"You CAN make scrambled eggs with a wooden spoon, but its much better to use a fork" ;D
-
Freestyle in the mid 80's wasn't that harsh on bikes imo, it wasnt until street riding and jumping came back in the very late 80's that bikes started breaking.

I think those were Haro forks, not Skyway (I need to watch Head First again as I think he says something about them on there).

Chrome TAs still float my boat, but the welds on that one look pretty ropey (maybe decent welding for 1983, but pretty poor by today's standards).
-
some guys have all the luck!!!i thought id done well when i grabbed a nos gold tech 3 just as it came on ebay late one saturday nite.another fine t.a mr munners!!

A good chrome TA is a rare find, a NOS TA in chrome, now that is a gem :daumenhoch:
Well done.
-
Build it, ride it.
Daz. :daumenhoch:

noice. So is this 3 TA's you have now? 1 NOS built, 1 NOS and one rider?
And all chrome... What are the chances?
-

I greatly appreciate anything of this ilk, I do.
Nice find. :daumenhoch:

wonder if its been filled

Not filled mate.
Re-chromed. :daumenhoch:
Still fooking lovely though. :)
-

I dont think those gaps on the inside are the same. They look like the Vent holes in the end of the tubes. The other frame has an actual gap in the bead of weld.
-
Mike, you got a copy of head first? I used to have it on vhs back in south africa hundreds of years ago. Wouldnt mind a copy if you can make me one on dvd, lemme know ;)
Only on video, but you're welcome to borrow it if you wanna make a DVD. Are you at Hayes this weekend?
-
No probs. I will dig it out this week.

it's the earliest us made ta on the register... wonder if they changed the welds along the way..
anyone got a upclose and personal pic of an early japan made rear drop out??
im intruiged
-
mine hade the vent holes in the welds, i noticed this was different on some, i put it down to simply design change to lessen distortion during the welding process, pretty random maybe, or just a mexican imigrant couldnt read the drawings properly and drilled right through, fook nose, but i dont think its anythin to do with identifying from usa/jap' models? well, anymore typing for today and ill be accused of chatting to a female in the guise of using rad bmx as a cover! yes realley !!

Original chrome jap made frame dropouts. Solid welds with no holes, only the vent holes in the tubes.

So what's the deal with the holes, mines got em as well, serial: Skyway USA 7-84, 13952. Could it signify USA made?

I think the change to the holed drop-outs occured early in US production, but as Jackiebrowns very early US TA show, not right from the start of US production.
That would explain why it was still in place when it came to welding the reissues.
No idea why they would make that change though?
-
Never noticed the holes not in all of them.
Unreal.
Pieces of art are a TA.
