Why are some not 'V' brake compatible?

surely all levers are compatible with all brakes...doesnt it just depend on the cable ends at the lever....?????

My thoughts exactly, so why do some say 'V' brake compatible' or 'Not V-Brake compatible'?

Its the distance from the pivot point of the lever to where the cable is situated, (& how much cable is pulled) there are two different  types, use the wrong one and the brakes are mushy and dont work
Hope this helps?

v brakes require a different pull length
if you use normal levers they just dont get the pull right
