Title: Is it safe!
Post by: Gary72 on May 23, 2008, 07:24 PM
To drill a hole through a seat post, got a pitbull brake and where the cable goes round and over my newly painted seat clamp it is rubbing. Was thinking about drilling a hole through the seat post and running the cable through, it would also give a straighter run at the brake adjuster. Anyone done this???

I cant the bike is in bits, was just going to run the cable along the top of the top tube, then up and through the middle of the seat post. The hole will only be 4-5mm round, the seat post is 22.2mm.
My sons bike has a similar set up, NS goes through the frame on the seat tube and has an adjuster on the frame, will try and post pics of this later.

Should work, are you using an adjuster to take up the slack?

The pitbull has an adjuster on it,planned on running the whole cable through the post and into the adjuster. Will drill approx  3/4inch above the seat clamp, in line with the split on the frame.

Similar set up, through the frame

I am going to give it a go over the weekend :uglystupid2:
This is how it was set up

You can see from the side how it sits on the clamp

get a posi stop - you have to bin the big black plastic bit though
which may make the lever if its not a sprung return type a bit "soggy"

just put a bit of tape over the frame where it rubs, i run quite a few pitbulls and its always tight getting the cable past the seat post or use a cable tie to keep it sitting above the seat clamp
