Title: ASHAMED and so should you be.........
Post by: pickle on April 21, 2008, 10:21 AM
so what did you get up to at the weekend?  nothing?  yep well same here other than shopping on saturday........so after speaking with Nick (Gashead) this morning i found out that Dans show and shine BBQ get together was only attended by 10 people!  and only Nick took bikes along for the show and shine.

now i know the weather wasn't great and there were some racing going at the weekend but if i think about it, i really could've dragged my sorry bone idle arse there and enjoyed myself rather than sitting on it all day and playing Mario Kart with the Mrs.

I feel quite ashamed of myself and out of over 4000 members only 10 turned up...........p*ss poor!!!   :-[

TBH we was thinking of going but had to go daggers sunday as we're both committee members, otherwise we'd have been there :daumenhoch: plus it was our only free Saturday before the baby's due so the nursery had to get decorated at some point  :-\

i know people have commitments, i'm not debating that......and i know people have important race meets to be at......but i myself feel a little ashamed not to have gone out of my way a little to go along and say hello.

i just thought it needed to be said  :-[

I guess the Issue is that people want events and ask for them , yet when one is organised no one turns up
It was free
it was fairly positioned
and was put up on the forum with  months to go

tbo i dont know what else we can do to make people come , maybe the site is full of bedroom collectors who dont want to show off the bikes and socialise with others who do the same
but tbo other hobbys of the same type of thing have 100s of events a year and all of them at least have some people turn up, it was great to see the people who did turn up but i did feel for the few who made an effort only to find an empty field

yes we can all say we had other things to do ,and tbo lots will have good reasons not to come , but 10 of us ffs

yes i was ashamed of you all, and it has made me less likely to bother in the future, but i guess that dosent matter as no one would turn up anyway

The question should be asked who said they were attending and didn't, if the number of attandees was seen as to low to run the event it should have been re scheduled or scrapped, clearly enough said yes for it to go ahead..................its those members who said they would but didn't turn up that should be ashamed

just my view
Title: Re: ASHAMED and so should you be.........
Post by: stidds on April 21, 2008, 12:27 PM
If people said they were going to attend then they should do it unless something very important changes that.

I personally would have loved to go, but considering I work 12 hour nightshifts on a weekend & I also work as a Driving Instructor in my spare time (which means I currently work 18 hours a day), this means that I can only attend when I take holiday from both of my jobs.

:'( I`m also gutted.I don`t drive, and couldn`t get childcare for the weekend(I did try).Don`t be too disheartened,I`m sure future attendance will be better if you decide to try again.Maybe Moley or Madd Dogg could get involved ? The enthusiasm of these 2 is amazing, both of them were trying to convince everyone to attend Coppull yesterday and Moley, though new to the site has really pushed the Novice bash at Creation next month.Sure the turnout was appalling, but no doubt those that did attend(even some that didn`t) appreciated  the effort made to do something good for RAD members.

Purely a date clash for me, Playing on british disc golf tour.
Hope it does not effect future plans from Dan and others to run an event.

Post by: Trev on April 21, 2008, 01:05 PM
it is a very poor show.
trying to organise events myself, i know how hard it is to get some of these people away from their keyboards. you do sometimes think why do you bother...

maybe the weather affected the numbers for this?

i knew i couldn't make it, so never put my name down, but those that did and never showed should be ashamed of themselves.
i did however get to see the toon whip some sad mackem b@stard ass...  ;D

i agree that if you need an event to happen, get moley on board.

I'm not going to dig anyone out about this weekend, but I will say that the weather wouldn't have born any relevance really. Dan had sorted out a little cozy function room in the pub where we all could have hung out, the pub did some good grub and was quiet enough that a few dozen of us could have piled in there.

There are worse ways to spend a Saturday night...

Shame really :-[

I've heard it many a time before peeps trying to organise things and getting low numbers which leads me to say that I'm having a first try at organising a one day summer meet either June or July  :crazy2: for a free, chilled out, enjoy the sunshine and bikes kinda thing. To be honest I'm not expecting large numbers to be honest and can understand either the weather, location or even me!! could put peeps off, but hey ho I'm gonna give it a try anyway.

I must confess I never even noticed the post for this event.

Sorry.

I couldn't had made it anyway as Saturday night I had to get my Tux on and attend a charity ball that the company
had booked a table at for the management, so I couldn't have made it.

it is a shame that only ten people made it though, weather probably didn't help.

TBH i feel a bit insulted, as someone else has said if attendance looked like it was going to be poor then surely it makes more sense to postpone.

We're stuck in the middle of a fookin heavy racing schedule and have only 3 free sundays from April 1st to the end of October, saturdays are taken mostly by the rota for Daggers training sessions, Tony works fookin long hours and at some point we've got to fit in having a baby and spending some time with Tonys kids and extended family.... whilst we'd love to have gone it just weren't gonna happen timewise and everyone has the same problem.

Some of the peeps on here are lucky to have supportive partners who don't mind their respective others going off BMXing but others are not so lucky and have to work fookin hard to persuade em to give a pass just for MK bash.

With these smaller events if their isn't support then dont run em, simple, i'm sure peeps will moan but you cant please all the people all of the time.

Also as JT said, i did't see a deluge of publicity on this event, certainly nothing like the MK bash gets and this may be part of the reason for poor support.

I've said before and i'll say again that in publishing either site goods for sale or site events the site needs to send regular Global PM's to ensure it reaches a maximum audience, but hey that fell on deaf ears too ::)

Like a lamb to the slaughter i'll finish typing and go put my hard hat on for a Rad bashing now  :-\

I have a suggestion, maybe we could ditcht he shout box and replace it with a rolling banner for the events.

not the racing ones, as the racers already know about those, but things like the novice night and this one that's just gone would be ideal. and everyone would see it.

But probably not as insulted as the people who hired vans , lugged bikes and heavy equipment to the middle of suffolk

TBO i am used to it in all aspects of putting on rad events or trying to sell merchandise and i had a good time so if i was a selfish c*unt that all right

but ffs stop moaning about all the aspects of events or merchandise and then not support them
i had given up with tshirts and events due to the constant poor support
so we get a tshirt thread as long as your arm asking for shirts and a " why dont we have more show events " thread

we do both and again we get the support we have always had, fook all

I couldnt give a shite as ultimately its not me that suffers its the site ,and you would have thought i had learnt my lesson ,well its truly learned now

thanks for the support lol

same problem here.

no matter how much you try and get people out on their bikes, you try and organise a private hire of a park and it's bloody hard work trying to get enough people in to make the costs reasonable.

The Creation session is in the midlands, so shouldn't be that much of a problem to get to for most. I mean there's quite a few of us from the southeast who make a two and a half hour drive there. Getting 30-40 riders (from over 4000 members) has been a nightmare.

I've also now gone into booking Skaterham. It's a smaller venue and cheaper to hire, so don't need as many people to make it work. 20 people is all we need. Even that hasn't completely sold out yet. There's still three places left, although I'm hoping a couple of those places will be taken by a couple of members from up north. just waiting for confirmation.

So why is it so hard to get BMXers together? I just don't get it. All other sort of events seem to attract plenty of people. VW meets always seem to get a good crowd. Motorbike meets. Even Lotus meets get good attendances. Star Trek conventions. The list goes on and on. So why do we struggle??

I agree with OSS Queen , these meets need to be advertised better on the site, i only just found out about it 10 mins ago, How about a monthly/fortnightly/weekly news letter been sent to all members reminding them about the events or stuff thats for sale in the rad shop .. I only stumbled across the T-shirts by a mis click of the mouse, otherwise i don't think i would have noticed there was any forsale ...

So how about a Newsletter ?

Even a global PM would help, but Ive only ever seen 1 of them in 2 years :-\

But as for feeling ashamed!!!! Why??

Bit heavy to dig 4326 members out though, you dont have a clue why they never went, they have nothing to apologise for, unless they said they was going

i started the thread to ease my own concious (? spelling) i have not picked any individuals out or attacked anyone personally.........i stated that lots of people are in the middle of a race season and therefore goes without saying that they are not going to go.....as the racing takes preference over that.

my point (which i may not have got over very well) was that i had a lazy weekend indoors with the Mrs but if i had put some effort in instead of sitting on my own sorry arse (no one elses!) then i could've made an effort and gone.

if this has insulted you in anyway then it was not meant to......it was purely to highlight the fact that out of over 4000 members i honestly think we only have about 60.

it's allways the same faces that sign up to things and when they have other things on (which we all do.....i'm not stupid) then it's hard to get numbers for things.

looking at this in hinesight (? spelling) then maybe having it as a sticky doesn't help because i often miss things that are right up at the top of the page and miss any new posts on the subject.

i shall shut up now

I'm fairly new to the site and I attended this weekends event, although I had nothing to show or shine it was great to meet people and chat about the old bmx days. I'm glad I made the effort I haven't seen a Kuwahara or a GT Performer since 1985.

The organisers of this event had done a great job and the weather wasn't an issue as we were inside with top quality music ( waxin - taxin ) top fella  :daumenhoch:

Ok chap's and chapesses  :daumenhoch:

I went to weekend bash and had a top time  :daumenhoch:

Well done to Dan Harris who made us feel very welcome and a big thankyou to his sister and mum that kept the tea, coffee and ciders flowing  :daumenhoch:

I got up at 4.30, dusted the bikes off from their last outing at xmas, chucked them in the van and drove weary eyed to no man's land.

It was great to meet some new folks, Ian, Scott and Lara and good to see some familiar ones.

It was topped by winning show and shine, I did get 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th !!!!! So the man they call 'Tight Shorts' move over and pass me your crown  ;)

We all had a fantastic chin wag and a good time was had by all ! Well until Rich started to snore anyway  :2funny:

:4_17_5: Dan Harris and those that made it !

Ok - the however part !

Yep I understand commitments - Believe me I have my own - 500 plus miles and 6 hour round trip was a big ask - but ney mind !

Nobody needs to feels insulted and NO fingers are being pointed  ??? Lets face it, it's nonsense to think there are 4,000 members !! In the last 4/5 years I have been a member the most I have seen on site at anyone time is about 250, and it's always the same old people signed on and post !!!

This is our hobby remember and there is no need for any fall out !

If you look at the events it's the same old story - The Xmas bash - Creation Novice Nights - CIN is a struggle for numbers (I should imagine the Old School race scene has issues too)

Similar trend when it comes to T-Shirts (20 orders) ffs

Rad Pads at MK last year - less than 10 sold !

Maybe a new approach is needed to these type of events, I have offered to help in the past and indeed spoken to Rich, Matt, Dave and Dan, maybe we could set up a committee of sorts to look at the advertising of them at least ! I know this can be a thankless task sometimes and a lot of hard work goes into it !

Maybe the likes of enthusiastic chaps like Pickle, Trev , Moley and me can help the site owners and admin out for future events  :daumenhoch:

Anyhow, lets chill out Radsters, we had a fantastic time but lets make sure that the next one is even better

Like I said it's our hobby - so lets enjoy what we do and keep the good times rolling !

Nick

For me, there's two parts...I'm from Romford, but at the weekend I go to my Girlfriends at Sawston Cambridge.  Its not easy for me as I really want to spend every minute I've got with her (thumbprint available for inspection) which was why I couldnt go to Daggers last weekend, apologies to Ratty and OSS Queen.  I'd love to go to meets, well local at least in the evenings during the week.  I'd have popped in to say hi at the show and shine if I had noticed the thread, and now I'm quite sad I missed out...

Rich, Dan - apologies from me too as I've said before.

I think the weather was against you for the weekend, and that kept the crowds away. It was a cracking event last year and would have been champion again if the damn clouds fooked right off.

Tony & Nicky - I think you're being a little hard on Rich...he's a good guy and works hard for this site and the events we hold. It takes a great deal of effort to put these things on, as you guys well know with running the OSS series. Imagine if you put a meet on and no one turned up - you'd be a little pis-sed off too? And you seem to have taken the out-burst personally? I can't see anywhere that Rich was getting at you guys?

Anyhow, as the wise Nick Gashead points out, it's just a hobby...so lets all have a big hug and look forward to MK08!

anyone who has organised an event has my utmost respect and also the feeling when people dont arrive in the numbers you hoped is a bloody awful one, better advertising of events deffo needs looking into and I think getting rid of the shoutbox to have a rolling banner with events and site sales such as t-shirts is a great idea.

sorry I couldnt make it this weekend Dan, I hpe you had a blast (tbh I am struggling to even get out on the bike for an hour or two these days never mind get away on a jolly)

 :) DINGO :)

 :daumenhoch:

Not having a rant at Rich at all, let he who casts the first stone and all that......

Only seems a little while ago tho that Rad events where only for the select few if ya know what i mean  ::)

TBH its not the first time Rich has sniped off when things dont go as well as expected, Im gutted I couldnt go, but alienating members with the ranting is not gonna help.
I never took it that personally, and my response was a measured one not aimed at anyone specifically.
Anyway, Rads not the place for ranting, If I offended you Rich then please accept my apology

I am not going to pick out quotes and examples from this thread, but jeasus, quit moaning.

forgive me for speaking my mind but in all honesty apart from bornmouth04/05 and the MK meets, i personaly think all the meets we have had  a poor attendance considering how many of us on here share the same passion  .. its normally "same old faces " who turn up to theses smaller events ..maybe, nikki is gettin a lil confused with the "select few"  .. the "select few" are the only ones who have bothered to turned up over the passed years ..... and rich aka waxin has been at the root !! of every meet ever held here on rad so maxxuimum respect to him  :daumenhoch: and just for the record i always said i was going to go to dans on the sunday but was informed that most of those who had ateended where leaving fairly early on the sunday ,, otherwise the man in the tight shorts may have still retained his crown !!! :LolLolLolLol:

Lee,

After some fairly lengthy chats last night i agreed to let this thread go and let sleeping dogs lie.  Can of worms, have em mate.............

I joined RAD originally inn 2006, only ever re looked when i joined the O/S in early 2007.  Since then i have supported every event that RAD have held, The DC launch (although there are a few stories over the guest list that are quite interesting) exactly why was i not included, i was 1 of the first to PM when the list opened, it was published with entries and both me and 796 were left off, after a few reminders and PM's we finally got a ticket to a RAD event, what gave tho....

MK2007, was i there, hell yes, i paid, got my T,  I spent a small fookin fortune that weekend on parts, took part in events and so did my kids.

RAD Xmas bash, despite being pretty fookin ill we made the trek and arrived late but still got there.

I was 1 of i believe only 3/4 that bought RAD T's last year.

Dont ever try and tell me i haven't done my bit, i've offered help organising MK, even to be there to assist set up/organising, but it's all cool.

I appreciate the work that goes into these things, in 3 events i raised over £100,000 for charity relying on company donors for the whole event.

There are times when this site is VERY elitist, it's the ONLY part i hate.

I very seldom get involved with these threads but one comment has caught my eye and I can understand why you have that view, but what you need to remember is a some of the founder members have known each other a long time and they do get together I am sure, but that doen't mean they have to invite the whole site as do other groups of folk on here as I am sure you do..........

I come on here to chill out, get away from work and make funny hand shakes with my elite crew :LolLolLolLol:

I don't think different advertising or mail shots would alter the turn out. As Bill said, people enjoy the old school scene in their own way and if people want to find a BMX event to go to, they will.

The weekend was advertised in Parks Tracks and Gathering as a sticky and had 738 views as of today - while RAD Readers Wives in Random has had 3070 :-\

I do feel sorry for the folks who try to respond to requests from members and can understand its disheartening when numbers are small for events - its a shame this thread seemed to get personal when it didn't come across as being intended that way at all.

Anyway.....MK 08..onwards and upwards ...chance for a good knees up and something to aim for to get our pop top on our camper  :)

The sun is shining, the birds are singing and its a beautiful day out there
