I'm sure many of us remember the exploits of Mr Erice Steele but who was the maddest rider you rode with bitd.
Mine was me old mate Dave Slade, mad a fook he was, Eric got more coverage but Dave was just as mad, if not madder. His attempted pop out on to the balcony at Holeshot was legendary! I've seen him attempt things most people wouldn't even dream of trying and what makes it madder is he would come out completely un-scathed!

Cav Strutt. probably the first rider in this country to table top, to 360 then aerial 360, along with a host of other rad stuff. If he had continued riding who knows how far he would have gone :daumenhoch:

I've had some crazy riding sessions with Denis Wingham, and generally things took a real turn through the 90s. Lots of lads just flinging themselves at everything, far crazier then pretty much everything in the early 80s that I remember.
Would be hard to pick just one person from the Mid years...

Todd Lyons was always a mad fun peep to be around bitd, had some cool times and he is a complete nutter, can't remember if it was a backflip or 360 dressed as a clown at the Euros in Sweden :shocked:
Neil Wood was always completely mental riding or playing, 2 fav memories were his big mad stack at Tours intn'l, scarey shit and blood coming out of holes it really shouldnt :( on the funnier side finding him 20 mins b4 practise for Italy euros passed out on our campsite cuddled up to an inflatible crocodile he'd knicked and someone's pants (never did find out whose they were) :LolLolLolLol:
Keith Duly/Ricky Bollington was always great to ride with, the legendary street sessions from bexhill to the backyard shop were wicked fun, good old fashioned car dodging rocks :daumenhoch:
Not so much a riding memory but a fun 1, the guys from 2B homecooked at the worlds in Holland, the track was swamped in water, the army came in and set up walkways that sank, Steve and Hal?? decided fcook the walkway lets mud slide in our boxers between moto's, fkin hilarious at the time, pics made Invert at the time i think, well funny peeps they were :2funny: :2funny:

Have to be Pepi RIP I think it would be 82 or 83 we were doing a demo at greystoke castle it was at the time that car jump records were the thing. Anyway Pepi jumped four cars, there was no specially built take offs or landings like chris young or andy preston had just a wa nk little trickramp back and front. He overshot the landing ramp which was only about three feet wide anyway and landed with a foot down and then went off sideways into the crowd. I'd say that was pretty mad.
There was another rider that tried as well (John Hethrington) but he landed on the roof of the fourth which was his parents car he completely stoved the roof in.
I know this sounds far fetched but i sheet yee not.

Found another vid on there with me in it on the news, we were riding BMX's in a new age version of the wizard of Oz & it was covered by the local news. The clip was very short on the tube, so will have to get on to the TV station see if I can get a copy 8)

Guy called Simpson (I think) at Livi circa 84/85. Absolute loon both on and off the bike. One of these people who shouts the whole time whilst doing airs. Saw him going about 7 feet out the half pipe, one hand no foot, whilst chatting to folk on the deck. Proper mental he was. Always seemed to be on the verge of stacking but rode out.
Sometimes wander if those airs have got higher in memory as the years have gone by - big fish syndrome. But that's me memory and I'm sticking to it.. :LolLolLolLol:

marc was indeed a total nutter on his bike. some of the stuff i saw him do was unbelievable. yep, he was a bit of a rogue but a very likeable one. marc and phil bevan taunting the police by doing 80mph on north rd in life's a beach vest and shorts (of course they rocked their bell moto 4's then) , the time cathays bmx club was infiltrated by a gang and marc calmly stood next to one of em and swung said helmet into his face (cue nose explosion and mass brawls incl his brother andy and their dad scrapping with em) 9 ft turndowns to head slams with no lid, etc, etc. some of the stories i can tell...............................
ps. rs turbo- i prob know you if you reveal yourself. by checking your profile i predict adam bowler?? you used to ride gt's & live in Llanedyn, cardiff?? if so get in touch.
i also put the video up on youtube. got more from 1986 with greg guillote riding there with the regulars the day before the cardiff national.

denny, do you know Gareth Swan from Merthyr? Use to ride with the Reardons. I think he still sees Matt quite regularly.

I remember Matt's skating. Mental style, always on the sketchiest edge of stacking but somehow managing to make it more times than not.

even though i didn't know dave slade i can recall him at the cardiff national having a bad run on ramps. looked like he was trying to make up for this by pelting towards the 1/4 and spinning a 540 at 6/7 ft out. he span and hit around 720 degrees before his skyway tuff shattered into a thousand pieces on the floor. and he walked away while the crowd ran and took bits of broken skyway as a souveneir.
dennis wingham is another fruitcake. always the showman and never walk away from it. hobble or stretcher seems the way with dennis. a good guy to be around as he used to frequent newport when he was seeing a girl i knew while making 'TIDY' . no hand 360 flips were on his wanted list back then (1998) as well as many other deadly tricks.

Denny its funny i had a long conversation with flatcap on saturday re Dave Slade and some of the crazy things he did you always knew when it was his run he was gonna do something mental. He was also a very nice bloke.

MARCO was and prob still one crazy mexican, end of.... but does ridng with taj, hickerson, arron ross, and most of the V-Club boys count . not forgetting Dan Purcell my good mate well i think he is as he still puts silly ideas in my head and makes me do retarded shite that i dont wanna do cheers dan 30 years of beeing an idiot..,, in a good way that is.
and i would have to say nowadays its the Stuntman himself not a day of riding goes by where i think " shit man thats fugged up" cheers bill if only everyone applied themselves like that , we wouldnt be talking shit on here haha

John Lee, he was a complete nutter. I didn't specifically ride with him though :). His mum & dad owned Chorley race track and John would be at most other races we went to, as well. He used to race Alan Woods all the time, I think.

didn't ride with anyone bitd as i was too young but the maddest i've rode with has to be either jimmy levan. that guy tore up derby in the late 90's. ruben alcantara, rode with him a few times, derby, birmingham, and coventry and we all know he's a loon on a bike. lastly gary young, rides at everything at 400mph slams hard, gets up laughing, wins everything because he's frickin awesome. nice bloke too!

how did i forget about young scary boy. known mark since 1993 and rode together for many years especially when i was making bcr on the vcr and tidy. actually mark has featured in half & half 3-deja vu i made in 1993 also. definate roll the dice when mark rode.

I often wish, thinking back, that I'd been a bit madder myself. I was pretty decent at the old freestyle - no contests or owt - but I never pushed it as hard as I should have. Still remember a guy I rode with, after we'd built a nice quarter ('bout 7 1/2 feet high, 6" of vert) getting totally frustrated with me. I could pop out and drop in but my airs were always lip-level. He was shouting at me, " Just drive out the fooking top! You know how to air, go faster and drive out! " LOL, I was a wooss...

Actually, I'm far madder on me mountain bike these days than I ever was on me bmx. North shore and pretty big jumps, that sort of thing. Even did the shed jump out in Morzine last summer, though tbh that is an over-rated piece o' piss.
Just have that, ' well ya only live once, ya might as well go for it ', mentality now which I never had way back when.

Has to be Gerry Galley or Juice... the first time i saw Gerry ride was at a Bfa comp in St Albans..
no-one knew who he was... he didnt do much in practice, but then at the start of his run he flew at the ramp
and busted out a MASSIVE 11-12 ft air, and threw an AMAZIN run down, after that EVERY one knew his name!!
Used to love watchin him ride!!

he would simply go for anything!! I've got a pic somewhere from Ripley of juice doing a table at least 12ft!!
he was trying 900's about 6ft out at ripley too!! hope this guy is still riding!!

Denny boy, sorry I haven't been on the site in a few days, been ill. Name's Steve, skated for many years after BMX (racing) and was in Cardiff as a student 91-92. I was living in the Midlands then, little town called Tenbury in the middle of nowhere. I remember you on a bike and always with video camera, pritch, deighton, Veysey, Jon tarr, Craig, Kwam, ufo Chris, Pulman just about getting his arse into town from his hilltown in that old SWEB Maestro van. Good times.

it was east 8ft +, with skyways and about 30 psi in his tyres :D
