I am unsatisfied with the paint job on my Holmes and have torn it down to have it repainted. I am also thinking about changing the color. I am going to run the same red parts. I have thought about yellow, black, red again, white, mabe even blue... who can tell me what colors could you get a Holmes in back in 90/91? does anyone out there have any decals for me?...
what it was:

I may do red again but would like some opinions. Yellow was originally my second choice...

That is NICE! I'd go for yellow. It's a common colour for S&Ms but it looks great to me with red parts. (Not keen on the tyres though).
-
can you take a side shot, then run it in a photoshop and change the colour of the frame to see what looks good.
o and i do rather like it :)
-
I am not really diggin the tires either. I am probably going to switch to some skinwalls. I have even thought about running some of the "natural" color tires...
-
the main colours of the early Holmes were Yellow, Red, chrome, and then a little later, Green and Brown (and probably loads more that were done in odd paint runs). Yellow was what everyone wanted, but I like the red look too

That's one of the early Holmes' that I know came in yellow...
I say yellow. :)
-
i always liked s&m's in sludge green! don't know whether that was around in 90/91 though. i'm an s&m newbie

the frame was originally red, about the same color as the re-paint. I really like the yellow :)

if the colour yellow is what my dirtbike is ,i can get a ral code if you want.

Ive just had my Mk2 Holmes painted Yellow. Its a little bit light really but its still fine and it looks great (gotta love SuperbikeDan). I think the Yellow that DSD used on his challenger is a bit orangy, but that also looks great too.
That picture of the Yellow Mk1 Makes me wanna use those Mk1 decals but I think I will use some later ones. They just look so good in that shot. Maybe I should get my chrome mk1 painted yellow .... ?

I will be able to match it up pretty close based on the ones I have seen. thanks though.

A few years back, a guy named BEN over on Vintage restored an old pre-92 Holmes in yellow. I remember it turned out real nice. He had stickers made and everything. I can't find any of the photos though. I know Moeller put it on the website too...
-
I agree. Yellow on a Mk1 Holmes is too perfect to pass on. I want one myself. One day...

I remember it too well. too bad he doesn't have any more of those decals. I could probably have some made off of the scans at your blog.

Bigtime. Those block letters rule!
I just PM'd BEN asking where we can find photos of his bike...
-
I wonder if he has any of the scans he used for his decals...

I was unable to download pics from S&Ms website but pics of BENs Holmes can be seen under March 13 2006 at S&Ms website.

i loved that bike,
the yellow is awsome too though :daumenhoch:

Damn it, i want an s&m now ::)
dirtbike or holmes as i've seen one of each for sale ?
-
You dont really need to do much to get those mk1 Holmes decals. Its just a text font, not really "art work". You could even print it out from 'Word' if you had the font installed. The head tube and seat tube are a bit harder but you could just use a shield.

Well if you sold in on Ebay about a year ago then it could be? I hardly changed a thing on it. Just the cranks, stem and tyres (and frame decals)
Early forks too... :)
un-drilled even!?...
Those forks are early ones cos the leg goes down further than the drop out. They aint "undrilled" cos there is a hole for a front brake. Out and out race forks dont have a front brake hole. There were holes in the drop outs of real early S&M forks, but that aint what people usually mean when they say "undrilled"
-
I did mean the dropouts... I have seen many of the earlier ones but not many of ones like that. the oldest I could find for myself is a GT made fork...
-
did it come from florida? I sold it to a buddy I worked with,I needed money for mustang parts what a dope I was.
