Title: ONE FOR THE S&M FANS EH ALEX?
Post by: gossa on September 26, 2007, 12:25 AM
Alex, said i'd dig you out a pic of the first S&M in Europe, well done better than that old bean, here's the first and second.....

Bike one, red mad dog, famously missing a weld on one of the dropouts! Cook Bros made, owned by Glen Leyburn of the Jive Five posse.  Bike two is the same but black and was my hack about bike as modelled by racer Andy Please.

How cool are they?!!! That has made it worth sitting infront of the PC till 12:30, trying to get myself to go to bed!

I bought a Holmes back from the US in 1991 for one of the Ireland guys. Richard someone I think. I came home with my first dirtbike, my old bully and a Holmes that I posted on to ireland. That would be great to get that holmes back (Ive still got my first dirtbike).

Im sure I saw Will Smyths Mad dog for sale in Ride a few years ago. It was just after the Dig Vs S&M fall out and that was why I figured Will was selling it. I thought about getting it, now wish I had!

Of  course I have it, i'll through it up tomorrow mate, it was in rad mag!!!!!!

That chrome one in rad was a GT built one I think, S&M had frames made by various people early on.  Carl Alford has a very early holmes still.  Man, uess what I threw away a few days ago, the S&M cap that just reads 'S&M HAT'.  Crap, you could've had that too!

Not that much to say really. Dig have had a string of publishers. They were forever getting dropped and Will always found a way. For a while S&M were the publishers of Dig, but they fell out. I dont know what happened, youd have to ask Will, Moeller or John Paul Rogers.

Dig went their way and found another publisher. S&M stopped doing Dig and started up their own magazine they did for a while ("BMX Action", then "BMX Faction").

Dam!! Why do we do that? ... keep something for years and years, and then just chuck it away. Usually a few days before finding a use / home for it!

I think my dirtbike was GT made. Its got tubes at the brake and BB braces. The later ones all had plates on at least one of them. It didnt come with 990 mounts, I got them put on a few months later.

So alex, did you see that sticker over on the jersey thread?  here's that piccy I promised, you can see the backside of the page.  I always just dreamed of getting a picture in action bike, best i managed was a mention so to get this is RAD was a small consolation

Alex, I just sold those graphites to biaggio, think that was a mistake!  This was a street comp up in nottingham i think, when rock and rolls ruled!
I reckon that's a GT or CW made S&M mate, a late Mad Dog or early dirt bike maybe? god the memories fading!

Clive, thats fooking wicked!! Ive NEVER seen that pic! I stopped getting R.A.D. cos it was more skating but I still tried to look through it and I bought it if there was some good BMX in it. I guess I missed that issue.

The shot I saw the other week was in Invert I think. It was a vertical Half page pic of you doing a fly out on what sounds like the same bike. No were near as good a shot as that one tho.  :daumenhoch:

So, Clive. What do you say, we go round to Biagios to get YOUR wheels and MY aerospeeds? We shouldnt need to take too many people with us .... how about just your mate Charlie?

(I joke, of course, in case Biagio reads this  :daumenhoch:)

Funny he phoned me like three years ago and I said that i would never sell them.  He called again a few months ago and me and the misses were just buying a house and I needed the cash but check the deal: graphites with DB IRC 2.125 front and mongoose snakebelly rear, Son Lite Turbo 1 hubs (ABSOLUTELY MINT, ALMOST NOS) and original Cook Bros Racing cranks, he gave me £700 and I didn't know any better..............gutted......

Too right mate but I'm gutted because I just hooked up with darren wood again and he's rebuilding his original TA, if I had the wheels I'd just give them back to him.

I think i'm like you Harris, it's not about the nmoney...

Thats what I try to tell myself. Ive only ever regretted one deal (cos I just gave most other stuff away to mates) and that was what I sold to Biagio. He took my aerospeeds (complete, but in need of rechroming) and a hand full of other stuff, 2 other pairs of cranks that I can even bring my self to mention ...... £300!

Ive seen and repliied to the sticker shot?

I will try and find the pic you got in invert tonight

TBH thats not a bad price from him, not what they were worth obviously, but not too bad from Biagio, did he haggle  :LolLolLolLol:

Oh yes, he offered me £600 and said that these weren't really the ones that people collected, Tim March was with me at the time and he got on the phone and said he was sponsored by skyway and struggled to score a set of these!!  He then moaned when he got them as he said they weren't in good enough condition.  I don't even know this guy but funnily enough in the last week i've heard a few people really slating him. Who is he or this a whole seperate thread???

He's a member on here but he doesnt really post that much. He has sponsored some of the Rad events .... well ... he thought he had, the organisers of the events might have thought different.

Sure, he is running a company so he has got to do what he needs to do, to get by.

Yeah he`s ok Clive, he`s running a business so he needs to make a profit.

TBH he`s just laid out around 12k to buy some stock from Rudewheels, so if he`s willing to take the chances then I suppose he should reap the benifits, after all it could all go tits up tomorrow and he won`t be able to sell it for shit  :crazy2:

I've sold a few things to him via Ebay.  Seems like a decent sort.

He must live a charmed life though, cos normally when I sell a set of NOS SE Racing camo pads (I bought about 10 sets from Shiners back in 1999), they go for close to £200.  On the occasions when they've gone for less, guess who was the winning bidder?  My most recent set "only" went for £107.  Fair play to him though.  That's Ebay for ya.

One of the main reasons I don't collect anymore though is that sometimes the best stuff ends up in the hands of the people who care about BMX the least.

He is OK. He knows is 80s BMX for sure (just like he knows his VWs and Vespas, the other things he deals in) and he has a lot to loose if the money dropped out of old BMX collecting. I go and say hi to him when I see him (MK07). He even rode at the Epic Xmas do last year. Thats always a good sign.

ANYWAY!!!! How come a thread called "ONE FOR THE S&M FANS" has now started talking about Biagio ... someone who about a year ago had never heard of S&M bikes!

I didn't know Biagio did it for a living?  Surely not.  Anyway, business is business so I guess in that regard he deserves best of luck.  If muppets like mw don't know how much thoer stuff is worth then that's not his fault is it?  I reckon i could have sold the Son Lites for a mint, they were almost NOS.

Wouldn't know him from Adam but the chromer was moaning like hell about him and apparently he was a bit devious in buying a frame from Lynchy. I can't talk though I still owe him a Redline Brute stem that I said i'd bung him for moaning about teh graphites!

Anyway, Alex is right, this is not a Biagio thread!
