after sittin here goin through how much iv spent so far i was just wondering how much most of us realy spend doing a build
ok so some of the rare stuff is goin to cost a bit but realy its not to bad :) just not goin to tell the wife how much its cost >:D
-
as little as possible usually
try to clean and repaint stuff
my "holy grail" bike has cost me about 150 quid all in, plus hours and weeks of stripping cleaning bleaching painting and sticker art
-
i think most of mine have been around the £600 to £800 mark.

i would call all my builds middle. my dearest was my first and looking back i could have built it for less if i was more patient with buying. i'd say i average about $1000 australian for each and i now have 12. postage cost probably runs to about 33% of that figure which is why i try and buy in bulk from vert, skate, rude, rini etc.
i like ruler's method (i'm doing a 1987 haro with this method) but living where i do parts are rare which means buying off ebay or vendors is the only way of scourcing parts. that's why i try and go for NOS or good condition to start with. if i'm paying quite a bit for postage i may as well get the nicest bits i can to start with.
i don't go for high end like hutch, profile etc due to my collection being a representative of what i would have been able to have when i was in my teens.
the collection so far includes:
1983 redline proline2
1979 redline mx2
1983 redline 600a
1990 redline (my son's rider)
2005 redline cruiser
1981 diamondback medium pro
1987 haro fsx
mid 90's mongoose freestyle
1978 candy blue team mongoose
1979 mongoose motomag (customised)
1985 GT pro
1993 robinson XL (this will be my rider)
it will stop soon........................maybe :LolLolLolLol:

Most of my builds have been pretty reasonable, with one exception..... my Mongoose Roger DeCoster. Most of the parts on it are NOS and are all dated pre 1979. Here is a parts rundown, try to think how much some of these parts cost in NOS condition (also how hard it was to find them).

How long is a piece of string,
Prices vary so much depending how and where you buy stuff, judging by recent ebay prices you need to spend at least 750 upwards,
My Trickstar stands me at about that,….the Torker (when finished) comes out at about 700, but my ball-burnished Ripper will be nearer a grand once I get my Redline Single Pinch Cranks on it….
On the other hand, my Vector will stand me at about £280 when I get a cheap seat to finish it….so you can still get a nice priced OS ride these days, but tbh you could easily spend well over £4k if you went and bought all Hutch components
-
depends on the bike
i prefer to do them chaply and restore stuff , but to be fair even that can be pricey
the ripper I have just done would cost 2k to buy now , and luckinly i had parts already from a time when things were cheaper
but yea for a top end build 2k is certainly doable

think most of mine come out around £400 - £600
but i have slowed right down on the buy build thing
last one i did was a NS huffy frame and fork fo rme daughter - that i was given so just the postage from the US
the rest i sourced as cheap as & all second hand where poss and that came out to £198 in the end
so i could have brought her a brand new redline or haro expert sized bike for that ::)
-
Don't think any of mine come in over £200.....but then they're all crap! :2funny:
-
dont spend to much on mine, i prefer to ride them and not worry if they get a scratch or dent :LolLolLolLol:

Exactly the reason why my bikes don't look as sweet as most of the ones on here. I ride them all. Even my Gen 1. :uglystupid2:

:) DINGO :)

i ain't spent over £250 on a build but i dont go for nos stuff unless its a bargain coz i ride all my bikes at some point so nos isnt an issue, i also bide my time n wait rather than payin more for something in a hurry, eg im building a GHP and bought bits over time and it stands me at £232ish and thats with Nos pro forks (£107) and a new set of twin pinch flights, mind you, i been gathering bits for it for over three years now ::)
time is a big factor
-
the hutch hollywood im building at the mo is at £900 and i still need cranks :D
