any way of fitting 1 1/8th forks to an oldschool frame?
-
If its a moto-one your local car recycler will help just squeeze till its a cuboid.(http://x11.putfile.com/10/30314491598.gif) (http://www.putfile.com)
-
i will work out a way.
-
Yes you can, don`t know how its done though :(
-
Someone done it on here, on the old site, to a Haro Master I think & I can't remember who it was, but he got the headtube machined out just enough to fit the 1" 1/8 headset in.
Then fitted new skool forks.
-
I may be wrong, but I am almost sure you can get a headset, which is sort of inverted; ie, the cups are the opposite way round (cones in the frame, cups on the forks) which does the job. I think I may have one, but NOT complete. I will look 2morro. Ad

It's no problem at all, as long as the parts are still available.....
You can buy converter cups to fit either fork into either frame. 1 1/8th forks into a 1" frame was quite a common job as people wanted the strength and clamp on stem option before having to upgrade their frame.
A ring around should see you right, try Billys up in Cambridge - I think their distributor used to make their own converter cups.
Hope that helps ;) :)
Don't forget to buy suitable bearings as well......
-
or you need to find some mid school 1 inch threaded forks with a clamp on stem!
like superforks or kingpins ;)

sounds like the way to go.

doesnt help much, but quite funny..
-
Why not go rigid ;D In a beavis and butthead type of snigger. That was cool!
-
i'm a try the loose balls idea
i was thinking of that last night
i think it will work
-
You wanna tighten your balls not losen them matey.
-
you reckon the tube will fit through the cups?
-
fnarr
yes it does fit through the cups
-
you tried it? snug?
-
just tried it.
the shaft moved freely within the hole
-
hmm. you reckon it might work then with loose ball......? would have to mess with a few headsets to get the right combo, you would need 1 1/8" unthreaded headset.
-
a one inch one wont go the shaft
i will need to use, i reckon
1 1/8th parts, 1" cups, 2 sets of bearings.
-
d'oh!!! wat am i thinking. its too much for my poor brain. draw me a pic when youve done all the hard work.
-
anyway i sed 1 1/8
-
would have to mess with a few headsets to get the right combo, you would need a 4" unthreaded headset, and a dooslem pin
i'm not sure i would, you know.
-
i beg to differ. dooslem pins have got me out of a tight spot on more than one occasion
-
i still think it will be tricky tho.cup-bearins-bearin ring-platic thing-squasher-next bit will be too big wont it?
-
well you know what they say - if it aint tight it isnt right!
-
they do fit in the cups sort off lol
as ive tried it aswell worse case senario
is you could get slightly bigger bearings to space it out
-
I checked for this on another site and came across the following extracts from various threads that might be helpful...
"get a typical tange or tioga oldschool headset (if you don't already have that) and get a newschool "Tank" headset.
use the oldschool cups and use everything else from the Tank."
"I did this a few years ago when the ahead setup first came out. I used the cheap Ahead headset with the black steel cups. The only thing you will need to use differently with a 1 inch headtube frame is a set of 1 inch bearing cups. You should be able to use almost any headset that is offered in both 1 inch and 1 1/8. "
"yes, but make sure you get the right "A-headset". not all makes and models will work for this modification. i did it once- i think i used dia-comp tank guts with old tange 1" cups. "
-
nice one san!
its fat forks time
(guy's chunky brother)
-
sounds like a plan :)
what forks are you going for because if you need anything more heavy duty than the King Pins i showed then you are planning on going VERY BIG :o
-
well i bought a set of haro forks. they have the all important ad mounts.
in the description it said 1" steerer tube.
turns out my inch and their inch aint the same inch.
but there are nice forks, and i need a front brake (everyone needs a front brake) so i will "run what i brung"
