Always been a massive fan of Andy Ruffell since i was about 8 years old and was gutted when he left Mongoose to go to Raleigh. Would not believe he had changed teams till my m8 showed me the front of the 1985 Raleigh Broucher. I took the broucher home with me and used to look through it for hours wanting to have a bike just like Ruffs. So 20 years on the dream has finally been realised and ive made the bike up as close to the broucher photo spec as i could find. Hope you dudes like, cheers ;) ;) ;)
The bike just came runner up in the BEST AERO PRO section at the Burner Bash 2007 and also runner up BEST BIKE IN SHOW at the Burner Bash 2007 8) 8) 8)

-
With no disrespect the winners of the awards... for me.. personally this was my choice for BEST PRO & BIKE OF THE SHOW.
For me its one of the best Burner builds I have ever seen. 8) The attention to detail and quality of the finish are....well.. the pictures speak for themselves.
(I took 17 pictures of it yesterday  ).
Well Done Jimmy... AWESOME!! Inspired me to build another bike..
The plate... the grips.. the white masking tape!! brilliant... 8)
10/10 - A* - Beautiful....
I stood and chatted to Craig Schofield about this bike and he too was blown away by the way jimmy has replicated Ruffells bike. Even down to way Ruffell ran his cables... :!:
JimmyP... I salute you...

He did use Aerospeeds when he was on Mongoose, but they broke, don`t know what he used on the aero pro but tey havn`t got a pinch bolt on them, Profiles perhaps ?
-
Yep, fantastic attention to detail there. Beautiful build. If that didn't win best bike then I'd love to see the quality of the one that did.

Both Ruffell and Schofield used 401 flight cranks on the bikes. There are some pics in the Raleigh 85 annual but i don't have a scanner, maybe somone else can put the pics up :-\ :-\ :) :) I think the ones in the pic are actually aerospeeds but there was no fooking way i was going to go that far :LolLolLolLol:

I asked on here for months if anyone had one they could sell and could not find one. I was desperate to finnish the build and the plate was the last thing i needed. In the end i was so desperate to get it done i thought fook it and took it to an old m8 who sprays cars for a living. He sprayed the plate for me and it looks and came out great ;) :) :smitten:
-
Wow , that plate was painted!.......Damn right ,one hell of a job ,colour looks spot on.

Ok wrote back to andy just to say thanks for the reply, this is what i wrote
Thanks for the reply Andy, it great to get good comments of the man himself. The bike took me about 9months to complete and i sorced the parts from various people, bmx sites and ebay. The hardest parts to find where the flo plate and the a'me grips. There was a point when i thought i was'nt gonna be able to get all the stuff but it all worked out great in the end. The only thing left to do is for you to sign the bike, so i will have to catch up with you one day. Thanks again for getting back to me and all the best for the future, c u around
jimmyp
This is his reply
Ill gladly sign it mate..
Maybe I can buy it off you some time!

I think I'm in the same boat as a lot of people when I say I really disliked Burners as a kid. However, I always really liked the team bikes that Ruffs and Schoffy rode and the one at the top of this thread is a beauty.

Ok ive gone as far as i can with this build and now im finally happy with the changes ive made to get her as close as possible to the real thing. I thought i had it pretty close but after talking to Craig Schofield at the Burner Bash 2007 i knew i could'nt leave it as it was without changing the parts Craig had told me about. So here goes :daumenhoch:
First up the plate sticker has been changed :)
Replaced bars to GT Pro Bars 8)
Got an ESP Stem for her :smitten:

Its just that the power disc is not round, there are bits missing to save weight i think. If you look at the pic of the brochure on page one of this thread you can see it. Not sure of the make either but this is the only one ive seen and i managed to get hold of it. It was black but i got it sent away to get pollished up, heres a pic of how it was when i got it
