Title: SUMMER OLD SCHOOL SERIES SOUTH EAST...IDEAS AND SUGGESTIONS
Post by: RATTY on February 28, 2007, 11:06 PM: Ok radsters, as you know we have managed to organise a few old school gates within club races at Daggers and Braintree.

I think theres enough of us interested to run a summer series using both tracks, details need to be discussed with both clubs as nothing is certain. I would like to get an idea of who would support a summer series if we get it organised?

Can you stick your names down, I will add them to this list then we have a good idea of how many we can expect to race.

If anyone from badbmx or braintree committee are reading this can you add your comments as well. Thanks guys

Piggybacking would be a good idea because everything is in place at the track, We do need to try and keep to Sundays as its the most popular day with most of us, what with work and travel makes other days hard to attend!
I also think it is more enjoyable when theres loads of people about taking the P#ss

I like the idea of doing a few meets up and down the country, Im prepared to stick a tow bar on my van and pull the bikes on the trailer, then the rest of you tarts can go in the cars!!!

I think we need to get race licenses though, at the moment we are racing on club days, if we step upto regionals we will probably have to be insured and licenced. Perhaps the Bad boys will know!!!

It will be a real shame if we can't carry on racing on a Sunday, as each month the turn out is getting bigger and better. I dont think we would get half as many riders in the old school class if there was only racing during the week.

Braintree and daggers are happy with us racing on their club days but they will be mid week, so unless your round the corner from the track we will struggle with getting there. Sam and me were talking about just renting the tracks out on a sunday if we cant do it any other way!!!

I raced reginals all last year with no licence as a novice, so cant see that being a problem for you guys, i will have to get a licence as racing 30+ new school this year, will also race in old school where possible and fitness allows. Started drinking low carbohydrate beer.
As for renting a track and holding events, lots involved at 'nam' we have to register events with british cycling, the council also have to be informed and if we wish to play amplified music we have to apply and pay for an TENS licence, oh and dont forget first aid with the oxygen.
Up for it though, Id say piggy back is the way to go.

Me and 796 have picked these dates and tracks from QuadPauls list, Any comments? Any committee members from Hersden, royston or Norwich who can comment, please do!

We thought to qualify for a series trophy we should complete a minimum of 5 out of 9 races, unless injury stops you!!
If we chip in £2 entrance per meet to our own rad fund perhaps we can get some plates made up similar to MK 06 plates

Also we need to clarify "Old School" as some people think just being over 30 is enough!!!

Full Face helmets, gloves, long sleeves!!! (we have been allowed at certain tracks to use open face lids, but we dont want to push our luck!! Lee :shocked:

Great stuff,I was thinking about this earlier,there was a few last year IRC,but if these fellas came on board as well it would be awesome....add to that the MK meet (ala Moschops suggestion) why not make an EA V South Old school challenge,either adding the points to the overalls or making a seperate Old School challenge........Proper BMX how it was then(in some respects,how it should be now).

Add the South V EA at Hayes mate.....you wont regret it,cracking day last year,great track too,this was my first race back last year for 17 yrs....now I'm hooked again,it was almost like a national last year the amount of people there.....do it....you know t makes sense!!!! :daumenhoch:

I know we could put up some prizes for an old skool race at the hayes events..I have also had some juicy old skool kit donated from Rob Stobart, some old ASR kit and some other clothing, the ASR stuff looks brand new, we could auction it off.. Why not think of going to Bournemouth in May as part of your old skool series, I know Geoff Routledge would love to see you guys down there if u think Norwich is a bit much for you, or Andover is closer by about 40 miles and more OS track friendly.

Post by: RATTY on March 04, 2007, 10:04 PM: Update, After discussions with Braintree today, they are prepared to run some sunday club events which will mean we can hold old school gates there. So dates need to be checked so as not to clash with the clubs away dates!!
I will keep you posted.

We had 16 riders on the gate today, with a few old school watching from the wings Dave!!!, So if we can manage this sort of turnout with 6" of mud, how good could the summer series be!!!

Post by: jazzyje on March 05, 2007, 09:25 AM: dont get too exited ratty.after running a series for a couple of years i can tell you that the races at the start will be well attended.as will the ones at the end of the season.theres a lot more to do in the summer months for a family man(as most of us are).the list of things women want to do on a sunday is endless.holidays and diy will play a big factor believe me.you'll have a hardcore though of blokes with houses that are falling down and cool wives that think its great to sit round a dusty track all day.

Its a good point, and one we had thought about, but we managed to average 10 riders through the winter series and topped out with 16 riders, so even if we loose a few names on the odd weekend it should still be a respectable turnout!! Talking at Braintree yesterday with everyone I think we could put on a respectable series!!!

Only time will tell ::)
