A few of you know I have been sitting on this build for quite some time. Well we finally have movement :LolLolLolLol:
I got the frame about 5 year ago now. It was a chrome TA XL i use the term chrome loosely here. I wanted a chrome one for a while but they seem to be pretty rare so when this came up i took a chance.
The chrome was just too far gone for decent survivor so i had it stripped. I have listened to guys go on about chromers they have used over the years and up until now been very apprehensive over getting a good job done with the frame been in such a state.
Anyway it came back this week and it turned out well so the build begins.
Most of the parts were sourced years ago for this so it shouldn't take too long.
Here are some progress pics of the frame from then to now.

When it 1st came back from chrome strip. This one scared the crap out of me
(http://www.radbmx.co.uk/archive/albums/ll167/glynn9371/SKYWAY%20TA/Skyway%20TA%20XL%20for%20Rad/crusty%20no%20more%201.jpg) (http://s288.photobucket.com/user/glynn9371/media/SKYWAY%20TA/Skyway%20TA%20XL%20for%20Rad/crusty%20no%20more%201.jpg.html)
But opening the box up to find this on Wednesday made the wait worth while.

And finally in all it's glory ready for the build ahead.
The forks were sourced seperatley as the owner of the frame split and I didn't win the forks. The next set went by and by the time the next set came up I wasn't taking any chances. The nos forks with original decals were on their way.
A big thanks to JJ Baldbmxer for the nos original downtube decal too. I was very greatful for the nice little og touch.

Really looking forward to this build Glynn 8) :daumenhoch:
-
:4_17_5: . Awesome mate . Always wanted one of those myself .
Looking forward to seeing what you do with it . :daumenhoch:
-
Splendid re-chrome. The dropouts look mint :)
-
Excellent chroming job
Spill the beans then, where did you get it done
-
I had it done here
http://www.colonnademetal.com/
-
Are you local to them or have to post it.
I get nervous when posting to places like this and prefer to drop things off if I can
-
No they are in Wembley and I'm in Leeds. I packed it well and so did they. I also made sure it was covered with £500 worth of insurance there and back.
-
Yeah I saw they were in Wembley but just presumed you were around there.
They did a grand job though
-
That looks great! Any teaser pics for the build?

Here's the wheels and tyres for now

That's turned out amazing Glynn. I know that feeling-waiting, wondering and hoping that the frame will survive the strip/polish/re-chrome process, and that the finish will be good. The T/A, and especially the xl is my favourite old school frameset
Wwew
-
That re-chrome looks ace :daumenhoch:

I'll have to see as the build progresses, two of my top handful of favourite TA's have white seats. It's going to be one of these though.
-
Shaping up nicely. I've recently got an XL but I had to have white as that's what I remember as a kid. They're the most comfortable sized old school I've ridden, although I have a shotgun ll on mine and they aren't all that comfy so gel cover is installed.
-
This is going to be Awesome . :4_17_5:
-
Thanks Jaymz, yeah I like yours. It's the same tt as my pro racer but I'm imagining the geometry will feel a lot better.
-
Bloody hurry up and fimish this build. Its killing me.... lol.
Cani wait to see it done. "wantit"
-
This is going to be one classy build .. 84 to me says white seat Glynn ... Pre 84 I'd have said go for the black ...
Just saying like ;)...
Loving this Glynn :4_17_5:
-
lovely :smitten:

Another piece just landed.

Oh my...
-
Some build this is Glynn, I'm loving this and Carl's Haro running alongside each other. :coolsmiley:
-
This is going to be epic! The rechrome is stunning...better than the one on my XL :'( but it's still hanging on the wall in my house and I love it :D
-
Going off your other builds Glynn pretty sure this is gonna be another stunner. :daumenhoch:
-
That looks bingo mate. Looking forward to seeing what you do with it

Another piece on its way. I had a full set of og designs pads but a set of Cali lites is real icing.
-
Love Cal-Lite pads ... "wantit"

Had a bit of a play last night.

Coming together nicely Glynn explosion
-
Loving that
-
Sweet! Lookin good!
-
Just not feeling the black. I'd originally wanted to put some blue bits on so it looks like I'm back to plan A
Time to crack this packet, these have been waiting for this build for some time.
I'm feeling better after changing the grips and putting the back brake on.
I think the crank arm decals might be changing?

And a token stem shot.

Lovely stuff. Coming on a treat that. Can't wait to see it finished 👌
-
Now that's a proper looking BMX Glynn! "wantit"
Awesome build ... Those tyres "wantit"
-
If your changing the crank arm decals I prefer the white background with red lettering and think that may go with this
-
Just one or two things to do but in the main nearly finished today. So as the light was gone I put a dust sheet up in the kitchen to take a pic then photoshopped the feck out of it to compensate. I'm over the moon with this though and it's my favourite build that I've done . Just need to get a stand done and some pics at my fav spot at Bradford bmx track and the job's a good one.

-
Heck yea....that came out the nuts :daumenhoch:
-
It's so hard that get the colour balance right on a TA... You through in a hint of white and blue and to me it looks spot on mate!
It's a proper looking era correct looking thing of beauty fistblump
Congrats mate .. It was well worth the wait for this one explosion "wantit"
-
Smart as fook that Glynn :)
Great spec, love the graphites and comp 4 combo
Glad you didn't use Skyway pedals, the DX are a better choice for a pro sized bike, boomshackalack!
-
TA perfection :4_17_5:

Now that's :radbmxsmilie:

explosion fistblump :radbmxsmilie: "wantit"

Thanks guys, that balance is just what I was after. Believe me a few options have been tried on this, black/white grips, silver and black brakes set ups, dk xxl stem, black tange lp440 with a 1"haro flex fighter, black tuff neck chainring & a power disc, blue kashi seat, blue mx clamp. When I got to this though it felt right, I was even happy with the look using third Velcro tabs from the plate as cable clips. It looks to me as though a famous white shirt with blue ringed neck and collar wouldn't look out of place by its side.
-
That's so f*****g good
One of the best TA's I've ever seen :smitten:
-
fistblump awesome
-
Top job mate! :daumenhoch: It turned out fabulously! :4_17_5:
-
Absolutely supurb job there Glynn. It's very inkeeping with most of the other great T/A builds around, yet there is originality there. It can be difficult to achieve this on a T/A without it looking a bit 'wacky'. Amazing build through and through. I remember at Blackpool you telling me how long you had been planning this build. The best things certainly do come to those who wait. Bike of the year contender for me already, and it's only January. Love it :4_17_5:
-
Very tidy, very, very tidy :4_17_5:
-
Stunning build Glynn. Get it in BOTM ;)
-
"wantit" Awesome :smitten:
-
Great looking bike. Never owned a TA.
-
Another stunner from one of the best bike builders out there (imo) :4_17_5:
Quality Glynn :daumenhoch:
