Title: Raleigh Burner? paint or powder coat?
Post by: Samsub01 on March 15, 2016, 08:39 PM
Hi there,
I'm not getting much response on the burner forums so thought I'd try my luck here.
I have a MK1 Burner resto on the go and am at the stage of getting it sent away for painting or powder coating. It's currently a red MK1 but I'm planning on turning into a blue and yellow Tuff Burner, with blue frame, and black forks .
I'm in Grays Essex, does anyone have any recommendations for frame restorers that are near me here in Essex?
Many thanks for any leads,
Scotty M

As Nick has said mate, Danny Purcell at PWS is the only guy a lot of people in this hobby will use, he's got his own gallery on this forum.

Click on the 'home' tab (top left ish part of the screen). You'll see an ad for Superbike Dan. Click onto it, and it'll take you to his website. Email Dan. He usually replies pretty sharpish. His powder jobs are spot on  :4_17_5:

And isn't as durable as powder.

My Haro was painted, chipped like a prossy's nail varnish.

No option for me as i'm doing an extra burner. White paint is on. Need to do the red fade next. Hold onto your hats!

SBD does painting too - he did my ripper in paint as I wanted to show off the welds properly ;)

but as everyone has said here I wouldn't use anyone else, the fact that you're in Essex already is a bonus - you'd have to make an effort to use someone that would do an inferior job :teef:

only reason I had it painted ( gone this week to be done )
is to show the serial numbers as with powder it will cover or be unreadable .

I'll get the camera fired up for when the red goes on. Here's the white coat going on. That's Joff behind the mask

Dan did my MK1 Tuff (powdercoat), like the others on here I would highly recommend, he's the best and a top chap to deal with also. If you're going for spec do make sure to get the forks and bars done satin black (not gloss) as that's how they would have been originally. Here's mine he did for me.

 :LolLolLolLol:

We've worked out a system. I enjoy tinkering with Ant's bikes and he pays me in McDonalds burgers. Can't say fairer than that, as I love my burgers.
Joff's been a diamond, and I've paid him in bike parts (plus a permanent place for his bike on my bike rack, and all the lifts to RAD rides I can give him)

That blue/yellow burner looks amazing by the way  "wantit"

Hi all,
So I got my frame set back from Dan and he's done an amazing job. Perfect finish all over and as discussed forks and bars in satin black rather than gloss. Now to order parts for the build!
How do I get piccys on the thread, just want to show before and after shots!
