Title: Charity ride in March
Post by: pickle on January 23, 2015, 06:49 PM
Okay, I want to do a charity ride in March. I've not sorted a date yet or even a town to ride round but I was wondering who fancies it?

As for the charity? Well today I heard about the superb work that one of our members does with badly treated animals and just how hard that can be.

I'm putting it out there with the hope we can get together for a few beers, bit riding and taking the piss but raise a bit of dosh for the animal shelter.

Ideally the venue needs to be pretty close to Bracknell if poss.

Any ideas??

List of Attendees

Pickle
Griff
Insectbones
Martin46
Hutchman
Bobbbbsy
Ba5h

on the FB page
Gnarlyscoots (don't know how to do the 'tm' bit)
Dave Racine
Pete Walker
Paul Knight
Steve Edwards

Poochie says he's coming as well  :surprise:

Edit to add start time / venue

The Boot Pub
48 Park road
RG12 2LU Bracknell

11am (pub opening early for us at 10)

But how does Windsor sound?

I reckon it's the best bet near Bracknell if you want somewhere with stuff going on that might attract out-of-towners - plenty of touristy spots and nice views plus there are a few cycle paths around (Bracknell is surrounded by dual carriageways so not ideal tbh)

How far do you want to pedal?

There is Chest-Air on the 28th March - We could always turn that in to a charity bash :daumenhoch:

exchanged a few messages with Jay this morning

She's suggested Saturday 14th March, so we potentially have a date even if we don't have a route yet..

As far as route goes she said she'd love to bring some of her animals out to meet us at the finish or something and has a pub local to her/the rescue that would be cool about hosting it. Not sure how far you lot are prepared to ride but that would be a bit of a trek from Windsor (if you had to pedal back afterwards)

So how far are you prepared to ride lads?

10 miles?
15 miles?
20 miles?

Let's get some kind of consensus and we can get planning ASAP

I think 10-15 mile round trip is plenty on a bmx, with a few stops along the way  :daumenhoch:

That's fine with me - just don't want to put anyone off
If we can get a nice loop (or a start/finish with an easy train ride back) that would be cool

Title: Re: Charity ride in March
Post by: griff on January 26, 2015, 02:37 PM
not sure if this link will work, but here's a suggestion..
11 miles head out to Ascot, past the racecourse up to Sunninghill and then back in a big loop

https://goo.gl/maps/5txrF

Means ditching the Windsor idea but would avoid Bracknell centre and take in a couple of nice sights
There's a few pubs located about halfway round so hopefully one of them not too Southern and poncey

Title: Re: Charity ride in March

14th it is then. The route above is a good starter.......we can start off from the pub (park cars in pub carpark) stop off at a pub half way round for some grub and refreshments then back round to the starting point to meet up with Jay and animals  :daumenhoch:

Title: Re: Charity ride in March

Jay knows the pub landlord very well & he's apparently cool about having some 'visitors' - so fook knows what kind of welcoming committee she'll have waiting for us  :teef:

Should be a few photo opps but I really hope they're not of the eight legged variety

Once we know how far away people are having to travel we can work out a start time, I reckon about 11am would work well to allow for a lunch stop halfway round?
Title: Re: Charity ride in March
Post by: insectbones on January 26, 2015, 09:25 PM
66 and a half miles, about an hour and a half drive, so an 11 o'clock start would be alright for me  :daumenhoch:

You guys!!!!

I honestly do not know how i can show you all how much I appreciate this. The rescue and my animals are everything to me. I work for them, I live for them. The fact that you have all done this and are so up for it is just amazing.

I have a few things that might help..

We will have quite a bit of transport -2 vans, a 110 land rover and a min of 3 cars so picking people and bikes up from stations is not an issue.. closest stations are:

Bracknell
Martins Heron
Sunningdale
Ascot
Crowthorne

P.s.... We wont be in Bracknell, fear not. I technically live there but in reality, Warfield is nothing like Crackhell. lol

My house is pretty small but i could fit 4, possibly 5 people down stairs (1 has to be either really short or REALLY drunk to fit on the sofa) But i have a few blow up beds that we use for racing so pretty comfy. Who's spooning who???

I may dress my bike up as a dragon and follow you lot for a mile or so for photo ops and also, does anyone object to the local paper being there? They have covered and are following Tillys Story so would be delighted to see how much good has come from it.

Lastly..... What are we putting on Griff holding Nayla, one of my tarantulas!?!?! Oh this is going to be so highly amusing.

I cant get on photobucket as its rubbish or id show you both the last outfit the bike wore and me with Nayla. Anyone on my profile on facebook, if you can upload the Rudolph motorbike one and the obvious one with me giving Nayla a smooch, id be grateful.

Graham (Founder of the rescue) is having a pretty rough time at the moment but I know that he is desperate for me to express his gratitude to everyone who is helping us. You all rock!!

xx

I'd like to meet Benson the baby hedgehog & I touched a snake once when they had someone bring one into school, but I've seen that pic of you with that thing sitting on your face and I don't mind saying it gives me the fear

Ive beeb trying to set up a separate address using the name.of the rescue but paypal is so gay!!!

Does anyone object to putting it into my PayPal with tge reference of 'donation to rescue'? I'll present a cheque to Graham on the day as a little morale boost to him instead of just putting it straight into the rescue. Would be better as you guys get to see his face and what you've helped to achieve xx

Brilliant!! My PayPal is gaspanic100@gmail.com
Make sure you reference it and also if you can drop me a pm letting me know that way none of them will be muddled with work payments etc.

Just letting you know The Boot does awesome food and I'll havi finger food out if you guys want anything there.

Also, if anyone needs/wants to stay at ours, give me a shout so I don't end up having to sardine you all from over crowding.

I'd like to take this opportunity to remind you there's a massive chance of a lock in. The last one ended at 5:30am.

Cash at the end is also a good option. I can get one of those quite large cheques off eBay and you guys can fill it in. I don't mind either way.

Also, there's no amount too small. One box of food for a bearded dragon to last 2 days is just £2.00 And even that is a massive help

Right, just spoke to Hannah who owns the Pub. It's on. And she has asked if she can ride her bmx and join you? She's going to open early so we can all meet and have a coffee/beer.

Guys you honestly don't have to fork out for a Travel lodge! Spoon with each other round mine instead!! Steve slept through a car crashing into his house and I slept through a gas explosion so honestly, snoring isn't an issue. We have air beds and space. I have public liability insurance too for those who are super worried hahahaha...

A taxi to the premier Inn shouldn't be more than 10 depending on times bit I still think further alcohol consumption and kung fu fights round ours sound better. I just hope you don't find the box with directions to a quarry, lim,  ropes and a shovel.  ;D

I was going to upload some pictures of a few of the animal's I'll be bringing but after spending 3 hour's wrestling one of my bigger snakes while his house had some building work done, I cant be bothered. My muscles hurt too much to be arsed with photobucket. I'll post them on the Facebook group tomorrow.

And yes, the snake capable of hurting my muscles while trying to keep hold of it for an extended period of time will be joining us all for cuddles ;)

Griff, did I tell you I've relocated my spiders from the bedroom to all 7 of them being downstairs in a line. Waiting to meet you and whisper sweet nothings while you sleep??

Haha... On a different note, our estate agents rang this morning to tell us the landlord is selling and we have 2 month's to leave. So I took 2 hours to find one. And it's bigger. A lot bigger. Fingers crossed for our move in date to be before this ride. Or even on the day. Just means all i have to do ia stock the fridge with booze and breakfast goods and we have ab entire house to cause mayhem in. You can freestyle off the stairs... Or something.

Shit day, but coming on here has cheered me up.

Hey guys.

So it looks like I might possibly have two houses by the time the event comes round. If all goes through, we get the key's for the new (bigger) house on the 12th.

Point is, if anyone is stuck for sleeping arrangements... There will be enough room for about 10-15 of you. 15 if some of you spoon. The new house is further away but I'll pay for the taxi home. I don't know where I'll be sleeping yyet, depends how many people fancy a free room for the night.

Griff... Just for you, I'll make sure the tarantulas are all in whichever house you're staying in 👍
Stupid estate agents won't let us leave the house we're in early But it kinda work's out.

Just a thought for anyone wanting to come but getting stuck for accommodation

To be honest, we get the key's on the 12th and event is on the 14th. Doubt I'll have had time to move 23 animal's while I'm working 9 hour day's at the same time.

Why do you think I'm trying to entice a group of burly men over??? Hahaha

Hellloooop again!!

Right then, I've been trying to figure out how to thank you all for what you're doing for us. I mean, the raffle alone has raised an unbelievable amount of money.

Graham, who founded the rescue deserves a special day more than anyone i know and you guy's are making it possible. So apart from the welcome party at the pub upon your return.. Here's what I thought.

Seeing as only 2 of you are staying over at ours (so far) and we'll have the new, improved and much bigger house. I was thinking I'd lay on a buffet filled with hangover cures for you all. Everyone is welcome, kids, families, wives. All of you. If you're bringing children, our house is like a free zoo so they'll love it.

John 'Griff' Griffin has already said he'd like to visit tge rescue on thw Sunday so that can be arranged for either before or after.

I'm going to need to use my bew kitchen at some point over the period of us living there. No better reason than thank you food!!

If you want to join, can you comment with how many of you so I can prepare food quantites etc?

Looking forward to it... don't think my legs are though !! just can't decide which ride to bring.   Maybe i should bolt them all together and have the longest bmx ever  >:D

One thing to think about.. if we have a few mechanical issues en route, i'll be bringing a few basic tools and inner tubes + track pump (if i can find them).  Hopefully between us, we will be able to re-build a whole bike.  :daumenhoch:

There's still room at our house if you want to crash? You can get the train on the Friday night to save a stupidly early start and we'll pick you up.
I have space for 2 more but that will include some spooning... offers there. :)

Conwy. 4 hour drive away but I now think I may have to give this one a miss 😕 it's gonna cost £50 there and back however I travel plus all the money on booze! Also my manager has decided he's having that week off so can't have any extra days off. Never mind I'm still coming to chest-air  :smiley6600:

Buy a dinosaur/lizard onsie. That'll keep you warm. I'm contemplating it as well as dressing my motorbike up like a lizard if I can find the time. if mother nature stopped being flipping Bi Polar Polar, it would help

well, that makes sense. Although I was going to ask everyone before setting off if they could refrain from having more than a couple before returning as i have this thing with handling the reptiles once drunk. Although I trust you can all handle your alcohol and can hold off the full on session till around 2pm when the animal's leave. Of course if you don't want to handle anything, get as smashed as you like. Sorry if it's put a downer on anyone who planned to drink loads on the actual ride. It's for the safety of our animals mainly plus there's a lock in.... Pacing one's self may be necessary lol

The animal's will be waiting for you upon your return to the pub so it won't be too long till they leave and I join you all in getting almost legless

Don't worry Jay, we'll probably only be stopping at one pub on the way round before returning to the Boot

I will need at least one drink though to settle my nerves ahead of the 'meet and greet' session it looks like I'll be having
I was talking with my wife about it last night and it's all starting to become a bit more real now
