Can any of you guys tell me what is the difference between these rims, and what years they were in production from and to?
Cheers :daumenhoch:
-
Yes.
-
:LolLolLolLol: Ta very much....
-
I dont have pics, but i can kind of tell you the difference. The b's i think came first, then the c's and then the x's. I'm not 100% sure of this, but i think thats the order they run.
The C's are flat across the surface of the rims, the X's are raised slightly through the middle part of the rim, and the B's are also raised in the middle but it is more pronounced and more rounded, and also a look of a ridge each side of the raised part.
-
Here you go B top X middle C bottom

I do love those 7L rims, I definitely need a set for my next build. :daumenhoch:
-
b's :smitten:
Agreed :daumenhoch:
L's are nice too
-
2 gens of the 7b also. gen 1s are much harder to find obviously and have different lettering and the raised piece is slightly different.
Gen 1

Thank you all. As i'm far younger than you lot it was all about 7x's & Speedlines in my day!! ;D
I Like the idea of a 7b front & 7c rear on the VP.......... ;)

Do it Andy, loads of pros had different rims/hubs :daumenhoch:

I have a newborn in the house and get little sleep, excuse my poor choice of words :(
-
don't weinmann do a 7b version
is this the same as the araya 7b as it seems strange both being called the same model
or is weinmann a sister company to araya.
as i can't imagine to different companies using the same model name for the same product unless there connected some how
-
I have these hung in the shed............. Yes i know they're Ukais but they're the same for some reason.
(http://www.radbmx.co.uk/archive/albums/p191/carpcrazyox/20131008_100953_zps5a2549b2.jpg) (http://s128.photobucket.com/user/carpcrazyox/media/20131008_100953_zps5a2549b2.jpg.html)
What's weirder is i don't know where i got them from or from whom. I don't even know how long i've had them :LolLolLolLol: They were hung under an old waterproof coat i've never worn. :-\
-
So, which are considered the better rims, Ukai or Araya?

they look like L's on my phone!
It seems they all did similar shapes
Araya 7C = Ukai Box Rims
Araya 7X = Ukai Speedlines
etc etc

Hmmmmm, a Pro down South is a euthanism for a prostitute Andy

So, which are considered the better rims, Ukai or Araya?
Personal taste as they're pretty much the same.
Me, personally....... i'd have Ukai's all day long, whether they're sppedlines or Box rims 7c like mine above. At MK this year, Araya were on more builds than Ukai's.
Another choice of rims would be Ambrosio, rarer and they look awsome. Again i have a spare set of these.
-
I had a set of Ambrosio bitd. Very light. Flexible is an understatement! Very under-rated.
-
I like a nice rim....... :-X
-
Had a couple of pairs of 7L's always took some sourcing from abroad though :-\
My last set laced to Winnie Wright's own Campagnolo Sheriff stars :smitten:

-
"wantit" :smitten: Flash fooker!!! :LolLolLolLol:
-
Do you feel educated Andy?
-
Personally I prefer Araya's
Ukai's came on the cheaper completes BITD (therefore being rarer and more sought after now)
Ambrosio's and Mavic's are very nice but were sneezed at for being European (again making them rarer)
Araya's 7L's are a good mix of 7B looks but with a full size braking surface :coolsmiley:

-
Araya 7L's. These will be adorning my Gt Pro when i finally get round to building it. :daumenhoch:

Awwwwww, stop it now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :LolLolLolLol:
This thread's got me thinking it would be good to have a parts timeline thingy. For example, perhaps specific dates added to pics in the Pre 80's or pre '86 'Parts' sections??
Just a thought....... ::)
-
bitd it was generally thought that Ukais were lighter but arayas were stronger......that could have just been a myth though as is was just an opinion type of thing :daumenhoch:
as for the weinmann/araya thing, weinmann had a partnership with dia comp going back to 1965 so it is possible that they also worked with araya as all the japenese companys were linked under an umbrella organisation, sumo rims are also araya

:daumenhoch:
-
I seem to remember BITD that a lot of American Pro's used a 7C on the rear and a 7X on the front, apparently the idea being that the 7C was stronger and the 7X lighter :daumenhoch:
