What's the difference between small and high flange ? (apart from size :LolLolLolLol: ) have they got a purpose ? seen them also mixed small on back/high on front :-\ I know nothing about wire wheels being a skyway man but just about to restore a pair of pro class for a rider so would be nice to know- cheers guys :daumenhoch:

"High-flange" or "large-flange" hubs have a larger flange, usually drilled out for lightness. They transmit torsional forces with less stress to the spokes than small-flange hubs do, but this is not a problem in practice with modern equipment.
High-flange hubs can make a wheel with slightly greater lateral strength than equivalent small-flange hubs, because the spokes create a wider bracing angle to the rim and shorter spokes create greater tension.
This makes them popular with track sprinters, who create greater-than-normal side loads on their wheels.

they look the same :LolLolLolLol:
so are both from the same time or did one stay around longer - I thought that large flange came first and then small flange stuck around longer ???
