Hi Guys. just picked up a set of Phil Wood Hubs and a set of Araya 7x raw alloy which I plan to polish up to bright finish. I'm a little stuck with how to proceed with the Spokes and nipples. I want a chrome style spoke if possible or at least a bright finish. Not sure whether to spend lots on Double Butted or not too.
I have seen some NOS Asahi Spokes and Araya alloy nipples on Ebay, but not sure whether to use NOS or simply new spokes, alloy nipples or standard ones etc.
Any recommendations?
Not necessarily for any particular era of build etc, but don't know how much to throw at the wheel build!
How much would be the norm to re chrome a set of pitted Arayas too?
I have a set of Araya 7x 48's and a set of Araya Super 7x 36's to get re-done and want to rule out the risk of later pitting too.
any ideas?

I would just get some plain chrome spokes try SJS cycles or JE James etc

Thanks Sean. It's a flamin mine field when you start looking. I am still a little unsure whether to go full chrome or stick with stainless. I like the chrome look, but just don't know if they are likely to pit or flake like some of the rims. Halo seem to do some reasonable spokes with nickel nipples. Seen some landar on Ebay too, which pop the price up a bit! Ideally I want to spend about £25 for 96 spokes and nipples if I can. Might be pushing it at that.

I've got a few ashai chrome spokes left over from a build if you want to try them and see what results you could get, I think there's some alloy nipples too left.
-
I'm working down Danebury Drive this week, so I'll be riding down Burton Stone Lane every morning?
-
If you are popping past I'd be interested to have a look. I'm on a late start Friday, so might be around until about 10.00. Could show you what I'm trying to work with too.
-
I'll stop off en route to work in the morning, around 9am, if that's good for you?

Coolio. Number 8 on the buzzer dude. See ya then.

Might actually try to find some of the spokes to match the ones I have now, as we discussed today. Not sure what gauge they are as they are thicker than the 14g. Hopefully someone will be an expert and recognize the logo on the spokes.
Should only need 10 or so to replace the odd kink in the originals. New nipples shouldn't kill me then!
-
The ashai spokes I brought round to show you are 14 gauge.
Lets hope someone reconises the spoke ends, they could be anything if the wheels were a custom build?
-
Can nobody help with the current brand please guys? Hopefully someone can tell me what the
Spokes are now and I might find the few I need to re- use the originals again.
Photo link should work.

Hi Guys
Was anyone able to help on this one please??
-
Having looked at a few other spokes and options I am still tempted to try and match the originals if I can find a few extra. Mate is polishing up my alloy rims and then I may try to dismantle the Phil wood Hubs and save the existing spokes. New Nipples no doubt though.
May try to get another pic on here later if I can.

This is that they look like.

That is easy, they are DT Swiss spokes. The engraving on the top is DT.
-
Awesome. Thanks mate.
Now the hunt begins as I try to find some more. Haha
Any advice on suppliers of these would be greatly appreciated guys.
Thanks again Sean.
