I think for me it's probably the fact that I now have my grails.....there's nothing now I aspire or want to build.  :-\

Hopefully it's just a stage I'm going through and the buzz kicks back in.

I have noticed also that Rad seems a bit quiet at the moment?

Yeah maybe I should have gone to radchester today as its only 20 minutes into Victoria for me.....

Do you ride 'em Steve or just build mate  ???

Not lost anything for it but I am struggling to find something that rides 'great', suitable for me  :(

I wish there more riders amongst us that would meet more regular for 'all' day outings. It would keep the flame alive f'sure  :coolsmiley:

Just build them really....I've had a couple of riders but sold them on.
Maybe I should get a rider built...It could be the catalyst I need.

Always feared the same when i eventually build my grails but since i have been back in the scene i have learnt loads and seen far more than i ever did as a kid. As such there are now other build i wouldn't mind trying, not grail builds as such but the interest is there.
your best bet is to have a break from it for a few weeks. Sometimes coming on here and the museum every night can get a bit tedious and make it seem things are quiter than they are  :daumenhoch:

You could also try an unusual build which may be hard to complete due to rarity of parts, etc.  :daumenhoch:

Still as hungry as ever and hunting them down one at a time!  :2gunsfiring_v1:

On the rider note... I dont ride any of mine, simply because they dont come close to my new school bike. I keep wanting to build a rider, then I do it, ride it, and its just feels like its had its day and wants a rest.  :LolLolLolLol:

My advice is build a new school bike and thrash it to bits, then come home and spend your time restoring the bikes you loved all those years ago. Best of both worlds.  :daumenhoch:

i think most have/will go through this at some point in the hobby.
i know i have a few times and sold everything.......................but it always comes back  :).
then you ruin yourself trying to buy back what you had in the first place  ;D.
i must admit i dont mess with the old school bikes no more after building nearly everything i wanted and just stick to my s&m's now.

Ride everything I build, best bits are thinking of the project, chasing the bits, building the vision  :D meeting up and showing your mates the build and having laughs n beers, down side is having to sell them on to fund the next one but such is life.
Couldn't make radchester today but going to Worcester on the 8th,highly recommend the rides  :daumenhoch:

I haven't been on the TRM at all this year, my kids are growing up and realising i'm likely to embarrass them @43 on a BMX in the park :-[

looking forward to MK13 as I couldn't make it last year

If your in it for the money i would start thining out, if you love the bikes stick with it .......at least until we sell all our stuff to the newbies on here at top dollar!!

I don't build stuff at the moment, I didn't make radchester this year, I haven't been to mk for 4 years and I cringe more than I laugh on rad, so I suppose it depends on what you are not feeling. I wake up thinking of riding, I pass out thinking of riding, I get the privilege of doing that quite often and to that extent I am therefore still feeling "it" but that is my "it" it isn't everyone's .
Remember what flicks your bean :daumenhoch:

Don't let Jaan hear you say that.   :knuppel2:  :LolLolLolLol:

I have also alluded to this in the Selling thread.  People wanting to know why their overpriced tat isn't selling so well on a forum for like minded individuals when they are asking eBay prices.   :-\

To summarise.  The hobby is enjoyable if you enjoy riding BMX.  It is not so enjoyable if you are solely into polishing your show-ponies or you're an out-and-out profiteer and you feel that your days of turning a quick profit on your eBay finds are over.   >:D

Well I'm certainly not in it for the money........I have given things away to members on here so I can only blame it on the fact I don't, at the moment, have a rider.
When I had my baby blue ripper I did take it out a few times and did do the Manchester Skyride twice on it.

I could never ride one of the 'beats' out....that just ain't gonna happen.  ;)

Maybe it's time to build a dedicated rider.  :coolsmiley:

I have to say I have actually found the feelling lots lately, I have never been more interested and inspired.  I think a lot of it is down to having a foster kid living with us now who is mad into BMX and we go riding a lot.

It certainly seems of late that it has lost some of it's mojo ?

price's to high on parts that should be standard
parts put on ebay as price's are not the same on here as what a person could get
people/members changing friends and the hierarchy of there bikes and build quality
summer time is no longer day of sun but days rained off - changing moods
photobucket messing around putting up pic's and not bothering
FB can be quicker and so some just stick to that
money and the cost of life
lots of bikes and parts have been now found and back to the once in a while finds
every thing on ebay is being watch - ended early - re listed due to shilling

it can loose the magic if you keep getting shafted, your parts don't sell, work gets in the way, money is not available for the right parts to finish off builds

been sat here and looking around the room - had to remove all the bike parts due to little one being able to grab every thing - shed is small and used to store work gear and so can't work out there on parts - stuff in loft means I have to drag stuff down and then find I don't have time to finish it, so having to take it back up again - being ill at the mo is a bitch - the parts i'm looking for all seem to be stupidly high for what was standard price's

these can be just some of the things that take the magic out of what was a good fun scene ! will it change or will it turn another corner to a path that doesn't work for the guys that are in it for the love and not the profit ? who knows, just guess we can sit and watch it what happens next

cheers B  :-X

Mojo is like LOVE - can be broken enough times that it loses it's meaning, and so it's a place that is put to the side while other things are dealt with - time can only tell if that mojo is the same feeling that was once felt

I suppose i'm lucky that I can still ride as I was never into building show pony carpet queens and always rode my bikes. Problem with that is it took me ages to get a perfect old school ride so I went through literally dozens of builds and enjoyed every minute until I built my Badlander. After that, building o/s bikes was dead for me.

Once I started considering doing more n/s modifications to the bike, I realised it was time to just get a newschool ramp machine, but as Sir Len, King of Nottz told us, I did it in disguise and I am lucky to have a daily ramp rider that looks o/s but is every inch n/s underneath. Bam, the love was back and I kept my o/s for pub rides and MK. But even that wasn't enough and when I missed MK last year I sold most of my o/s collection and had an amazing holiday on the proceeds.

I now ride ramp nights with a great bunch of mates on here and everytime we go, the banter is fierce and the laughs plenty so that is what has kept my love of BMX alive, along with two cracking rides in Leeds and Manchester this year. My kids are both tearing around on their balance bikes so I know it is only a matter of time before I will be out riding with them, so what more could I need?

BMX is in your soul. Just get on one and ride it and you will remember so my advice is build a rider and enjoy it  :coolsmiley: :daumenhoch:

think every one has moments when bmx takes a back burner for a period of time.work, holidays, change of moods ,other interests sometimes take priority over our bmx collection, but we all come back to bmx. some people collect as much as they can quickly, others collect the iconic bikes they could only dream of owning as a child, others go down the one make line and take time to  collect an amazing collection, sum just race/ride/freestyle were all slightly different. peoples budgets vary as do peoples preferances . but one thing we all have in common is the simple fact we ALL have a love of what we did as children and that was BMX . like many people ive "thought" of thinning out my collection and selling a few . but all my bikes i like, all be it for different reasons and i just dont know what i would sell if i ever finally do ever part with any. 2001 saw me get back into bmx and im still here , it will NEVER be over for me ,ill always have one or two bikes  :daumenhoch:

I've just spent the day amongst some of the most skillful and brave riders I've ever seen, at the North regional at Leeds. BMX is thriving  :daumenhoch:
