Title: Bike ID ???
Post by: Funkyworm on April 28, 2013, 08:54 PM
Ok Ive never had a new school bike,

Never even been interested in them , in fact i have no place on one at all ,(but) after going to terminal 1 last night I thought i'd see if i could find something cheap & if so maybe at some time in the future I might actually have a go after rolling around at home for a bit !

So I found this on the bay today, got it super cheap (or expensive as it's most likely a piece of crap) but for £100 i thought it was worth the risk. :daumenhoch:

First school boy error, Ive got it home & realised I can't mount a rear brake to it as the lugs have been removed from the top tube (can anyone help me replace these as I ain't a kid & I need brakes before i go anywhere near it.

Second thing the Kid who was in Stoke was selling it as he'd come off of it & he had the mother of all scars on his collar bone from where he broke it & had it operated on (So the bikes got Previous) & is most likely why they changed the forks..... ??? ??? ??? ??? ???

Ok well the bike was advertised as & is supposed to be the following:

frame:subrosa pandora ( custom glow in the dark paint ).. Clearly they have done this themselves at some point but its been well ridden since Don't know the year r even if it is a Subrosa ??
forks= wethepeople ( these have a salt on the drop out but are these not the same company ???)
handlebars=wethepeople signature chet blacksmith  ?? Who's he ? & are they correct ? they have a decal saying Magma heat treatment wethepeople ?
(http://i1001.photobucket.com/albums/af140/callum1971/Subrosa%20Pandora/FB129523-6838-4C8D-8DA9-74AC1A7C2C19-3356-00000289891773BE_zps0d6cfe53.jpg)(http://i1001.photobucket.com/albums/af140/callum1971/Subrosa%20Pandora/6B1F5D64-5E90-4C66-905F-14A55EF0232D-3356-00000284D938DEEF_zps1bd3b09c.jpg)

stem=salt  (OK I can see the logo on the stem & Headset)
tyres= Odyssey red wall tyres signature by aitkens (OK same here)
pegs=salt OK no probs here either but would like to take them off
wheel set=xposure (The Hubs have an x on them cant see any other markings) ?
grips= odi  (yup ok here too)
pedals=  cult again i can see the logo I'm assuming these are really cheap?
crank and arms= wethepeople, (They have some markings on the inside of the arms )??? Are these legit???

So, any idea if this info is correct what year it might be & just how much of a piece of crap it really is ????

At the very least the paint does glow in the dark so the £100 paid can actually help me save on my evening lighting bill !!!! :daumenhoch:

Any info wold be great. :daumenhoch:

Sure there not removable mounts for the brake ?
Title: Re: Bike ID ???
Post by: Betty on April 28, 2013, 09:09 PM
It's alright that for the money  :daumenhoch:

Salt is wethepeoples own parts brand

Shame about the lugs, have they been chopped off or are they removable screw in ones that are just missing?

Eh ???? Dont even know what removable mounts are mate, but theres  2 points on the underside of the top tube where there has been something ground off before it was painted!

Ive googled the Subrosa Pandora frame & there looks on older models to be 2 lugs the one at the front is where the brake  cable passes through & the second is where the cable leaves the outer & heads towards the rear calliper.

Sorry Betty ,

Just saw your post, I didn't know that removable lugs even existed, it deff looks to be a ground down stump to me  :-[  so Any idea what year it might be & is it a Subrosa ???

:) You can buy removable cable guides, you`ll need to grind down the remnants of the originals and drill/tap the frame.Perhaps the lugs can be modified to take a set of removable lugs (also available to buy).

It's defo subrosa dos it say pandora on the bottom bracket , the SDT stands for signal down tube, I think they came as frame only, forks were purchase seperately ,
£100 not bad if ya can sort the brake issue
Rattle can the bars and it will look half decent  :daumenhoch:

Hello mate,  Is that the look then all rattled & Matt black ????  :daumenhoch:

I Cant see (Pandora stamped) anywhere the only kind of identification marks I can find on the bike are on the pics above, On the BB it says :CH0297 & on the other side 10SDT-0574 If this helps identify it?

I guessed it was a Subrosa of some sort by the decorative although defunct (Brake bridge) as I seem to remember seeing this on a thread before but as for the model or year I really haven't got a clue.

Looks more like a 2008? Subrosa Armada to me, look at the brake bridge on this one for example -> http://bmxmuseum.com/bikes/subrosa/27423  :smiley6600:

edit: or f.ex. also ->http://bmxmuseum.com/bikes/subrosa/53579       Looks like your frame ..... hey wait, the area around the bb/chainstays on both these bikes looks different from yours... ???

Same thing with the Letum (2010) model f.ex ->http://bmxmuseum.com/bikes/subrosa/33689
....or also with the Novus 2009 model ->http://bmxmuseum.com/bikes/subrosa/59450

Perhaps things are different with a Salvador 2008 ----cant't see the relevant detail here unfortunaltely---- -> http://bmxmuseum.com/bikes/subrosa/66810
(or here 2010 meodel ->http://www.pinkbike.com/u/freeride126/album/2010-subrosa-salvador-dirt/)

Done some digging & been told that this should work  with the brake mounts on a a Subrosa, so I've ordered one up will need to drill & tap to mount the cable bracket for the adjuster, not sure whether to do this myself or speak to Animal about it, he's shit hot on all projects like this .

Anyone got any suggestion on a reasonable brake / lever combo ?

Cheers for the offer mate & i'm sure it's a good price.

Let me see if i can get this frame sorted first, I think I might go for something cheaper like Xposure lever & Brake  just to see how i get on, the body's not what it was & I'm a tad worried about my back. I haven't ridden a bike since i was a teen so i might only have this 5 mins & go back to building bikes rather than riding them as well so i'm not going to chuck money at it.

Really appreciated though  :daumenhoch:

Are there 2 holes on the underside of the top tube for a cable stop? (gyro tab sized holes)

(http://www.radbmx.co.uk/archive/albums/m48/markw33/C5274224-F6D1-46BE-94D9-369071E1BDBC-1619-00000206EC6DF260_zpsbbca1920.jpg) (http://s101.photobucket.com/user/markw33/media/C5274224-F6D1-46BE-94D9-369071E1BDBC-1619-00000206EC6DF260_zpsbbca1920.jpg.html)

Looks to me like your frame has normal lugs that have been hacked off but you can still see the the threads  :-\

The lugs on mine screw in more or less flush with the frame

Hi ,theres no holes on the underside of the top tube but there is 2 sections that have been ground off  , one part would been a welded cable guide & the one towards the rear where the ajuster would fit.

when it comes to the brake threads do you think these wouls have projected further from the frame & that i wont be able to now fix a brake properly ???

Cheers

Don't know wether you'll get removable lugs to fit, sounds deffo like yours are welded lugs that have been cut if cable guides have been ground off, they're usually removeable n all

Yours would have had welded lugs like this....

I've checked today & it looks like i wont be able to mount removable lugs, ah well never mind, I'll strip the Bike & put the F&F up for sale on the Bay I'm sure it'll make the basis for a decent set up for a kid that doesn't want brakes :daumenhoch:  I't felt a bit small for me anyway so im off to get a f&f combo thats 21"  not that i'm tall but it'll just feel a little more old school & stable underneath me & i know Ill prefer that...
