Picked this frame up from Dan Harris at MK this year, an early, aluminium 2Hip Pork as well as a NOS, but shelf weary steel one from Shiners, fortunately, ` Desperate Dordy' took the steel one off my hands within the hour, so I didn't have to drag 3 of them up the motorway! (I already had my existing raw steel one with me)
It was yellow when I got it, although it is my favourite colour, I didn't want it that way, so it went to the powder monkey near me with the strict order to `do it what colour you want, but moody'! so I was happy a few days later with `marron' (hazlenut to us brits!)
Its built up with pretty much all the bits from my now sold raw steel one (cheers Webbie) and am thrilled that it comes in at 26lb!!
Might go back to my dyno bars, these Juice bars are a bit odd, but i'll give them a fair go first!
Other than that, I reckon its just a full decal set and its done.

Weird thing is.
I've ridden this bike and apart from its 90's looks it actually rides like a new schooler.
When i got the tape out it had a 13.75 rear end!
Very cool bike Munny's

That's well nice 8)

:) Sure looks good.In The Albion issue ten in the Martyn Tasmbling interview the 2Hip Pork is referred to as an "overly-built JCB sausage bike" :daumenhoch:

Well do you ever wonder why shiner were selling these off? They were, let's be honest, piles of shit frames, improved purely by nostalgia, I love Ron w but his kooky bikes of the 90s were bloody awful! Wal riots? Shit. 2hip big boy / stout boy? Really shit. Pork? Don't get me started. Lovely of Ron to plough his own furrow, but it wasn't a particularly good furrow to plough.
There's a reason every frame looks similar today, insofar as you can't greatly improve on a double diamond hard tail!

gentlemen please ... we all have our opinions and they are all valid.
Mr TheJob & Mr Whac are spot on from a rider perspective... having ridden through the 90s.
To people like myself and many others looking back nostalgically, looking for something different to 80s bikes, and not wanting to ride them in anger then they are evidence of experimentation and development from 'the journey' ... we love their style and what they represent ... which is a perfectly valid reason to collect them and love them :daumenhoch:
Standards and S&Ms were the 'riders' bikes no doubt ... strong, dependable ... and a bit boring.
'Kooky' is right where I'm at :daumenhoch: ... life would be so dull if we all thought the same.
George has cut off his dreads now :)
"overly-built JCB sausage bike" fookin LOL
I miss Joe ... he would have had his 2 penneth here me thinks
-
That's My old frame, I like what You've done with it! :daumenhoch:
Yeah They looked a bit funky but that seemed ok in the 90's & personally I liked the oversized frames that were about then. (where's a pic of that CircleG frame that was the inspiration for the Pork)
As for them being shite, the geometry & weight are the same as what any 20" t/t frame is nowadays, but at the time it felt real weird :LolLolLolLol:
-
Shiteness is related to build quality and tolerances, especially the wals and the big boy stout boys.. I mean, homeless bikes, both incarnations, were also complete shite in this respect...

You missed out 'badly' between 'ridden' and 'through' in my case Ed ;D
But yep - spot on comment - although I still go out on some of me 90's bikes, they are pap to ride in comparison with a load of todays bikes - that's progress though innit, but I still wouldn't get shot of any of them (despite when the missus keeps asking me to clear the loft/cellar/spare room) :daumenhoch:
Standard, S&M and a few others got it as near as it could be dialled for the 90's (on some of their frames) geo-wise, Standard especially had it dialled with materials and weld quality due to them (nearly from the get-go) producing stuff in-house. You had to shop about a bit to find frames etc that were built to the same in-house goodness (Spooky made stuff being an example). The 90's wouldn't be the 90's without some whacked out ideas that didn't quite pan out (like stupidly big freewheel protecting dropouts). I love that 90's mentality of a 'rider owned' company, and am glad that the likes of Standard and S&M are still going strong today.
Love you all (well nearly all of you) ;D
Dan 'rope-hair' McConnell.
*edit* bugger me Dan, that's a beut - madness, but a beut. :daumenhoch:

Well I love that as I have always had a man crush on Geoff. And Steve g and his zimas. Cos you know with them the wheels and brakes would probably match up, the cranks would go in. Etc etc.
