Title: Profile Crank Generations
Post by: greentoad on December 05, 2012, 08:17 PM
Hi all

I have read a few old threads about Profile Cranks but is there an easy way to ID them? Is it to do wih the weep holes, do they all have the size marked? Any pictures,, documents etc.

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

I have some gen 1's with weepholes.

Everyone says they are not gen 1's.

Box, no indents, weepholes, bought from a well known bloke in the states, who said some were done with weepholes, last of the bunch before they got indents.

There are several documents out there that cover the history, only one supports my theory. The rest don't.

Thanks for the info, I have been reading this again - http://bmxmuseum.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=14699  - but this is old and some have holes, some don't.

Is it easy to tell Gen 2 and Gen 3? On both of my sets I don't seem to see any markings.

Jem I thought that about the marking . But if u check by the weep holes at the crank area very carefully they r genrally marked there but freehand with an engraver  ;) the engraving is all different  ::) Not always clear at a first glance  :daumenhoch:

Hi

Thanks for the info. I can not see any thing stamped (cranks are still on the bikes) so will have to get a tool. Fingers crossed one set atleast is Gen 2.

Hoping all is well.

Hello again

I met up with an old Rad member and we ate lots of cakes as both sets of cranks came out tonight. They both came out very easily.

A faint hand scratched mark of 175 on both sets can be read. I'll take the spiders off tomorrow and see what is written behind on the arms, and get some photo's up.

Does this mean they could be Gen 2 or Gen 3A ?

Thanks

J.

I was reading a thread on a us site a few weeks ago put up by a massive profile collector who showed a fooking pile of rare stuff that i hadnt seen before, and I didn't realise how many variations there are in the cranks...
