Title: New look S&M XLAF frame!
Post by: generallee on November 06, 2012, 08:41 AM
Hi fellas,
Thought I'd post this up as this frame has a bit of history here at Rad.
Darkersunday Joe had this made by S&M, a custom L.A.F. frame with a 21.5" toptube and chainstay brake mounts. Renamed by him the XLAF !
It went eventually to me, but I sold it [along with my mid and old school collection] when I set up my shop, needs did must sadly.
Eventually it ended up with Lenny Lentini, and I always wished I'd kept hold of that XLAF...
Anyway, a little while later, Lenny graciously agreed to sell it to me, I was so happy to have it back again.
the original raw finish had gone very very flat and dull, and looked tired. There was also a hole drilled in the seattube for the cable route, but it was untidy and had a weeny split in the edge of one of the holes, plus it already had a downtube cable stop, so a quick tidy up by welding supremo Mi16kie, and then a fresh gloss black powder coat by the one and only superbikedan, and finally some new chrome stickers from sticker hero Del,
and it is reborn. It honestly looks absolutely brand new, not  a mark on the dropouts, nothing.
Hope you like the pics, and I hope Joe and Lenny and all previous owners of this frame like it too... it is about to be built as my trails bike..
Enjoy!!!
Steve

'tis indeed a thing of beauty.

Lenny really thought this was his dream ride but it didn't work out - he thought long and hard about if he should/could sell it ... but well done to him for moving it on and getting the frame he wanted rather than just sticking it away in a box and forgetting about it :daumenhoch:.

To all those who contributed towards getting Len the S&M for his stag night... have no fear... the extra sticker we gave him has been proudly mounted on his new frame and he finally has the ride we was longing for  :daumenhoch:

Nice one Brothers

I had to think long and hard about letting my Holy-Grail go, but I just couldn't get the rear end right (link out, link in...you no the score).

Plus I was so grateful to the Brothers for seeking out and chipping in for this Frame I didn't know what to do.

I knew Generallee had 'Soul-Points' so knew it was going to a good home and when he came up with a brand new Fit Marv straight from the Distro the deal was great for both of us.

The frame looks fckn fckn Killer now and I'm manualing for fun on my new one (complete with Suspects Sticker).

This frame is in Rad Rides as well isn't it! Joe had a load of bikes in there ... shame he had to go again.

Just looking at that pic of Len with the tinfoil suit on made me laugh out loud at work! Funniest BMX night ever that with the doorway of doom, crashing through boxes, chilli sauce down your arm kebab eating contest and vodka shots!

Top bike and glad it's stayed in the community with you Steve.

Keep the foil......  :2funny:

Thanks for all the lovely messages fellas, i love a good story of a frame doing the rounds here at Rad... Joe.. Me... Gingerholmes...Lenny...back to Me....!
It really does look stunning in the gloss black. Its in a box, next to another box of bits ready to build as my trails machine. I cant jump for toffee these days, but the super long toptube, along with my first set of huuge bars and only one brake will make a great fun ride. Plus, the LAF was one of the finest moments of S&M engineering in my opinion. I ride an S&m ATF custom frame these days, but thats two brakes, 4 pegs etc, this'll be fun to have stripped a little more bare.
Thanks once agin to Lenny for this, it wasnt an easy decision for him, but Im sure we all came out happy in the end, esp the generous dudes who sorted this frame fr him in the first place. This will never leave the Rad community, thats a promise.
Great to be back on here posting stuff, it's been too long!

Is 5 years a little too late to reply to a thread?
Well, since this began, I have knackered my foot riding, been through many procedures... got it back working again pretty much, now tinkering with 20" bikes again, and did an Old Fools last year.. this XLAF went to a friend of mine for a few years... and came back to me again this week. It's having a few new parts... but the paintjob and stickers are still going strong... it looks ace. Pics soon!
Cheers,
Steve
