Title: Slight movement after replacing a stem(s)
Post by: Jaan on August 20, 2012, 06:57 PM
Elp, i've just recently replaced 2 stems, a black for a blue Suntour Power Stem on a KZ1 and chrome for a red Group 1 on a FST. Now when I pull the front brake there is a slight bit of give and a knock noise - what have I done wrong as i've expertly replicated the problem on both bikes...  ???

Consistently not quite getting things right,
Chris  :daumenhoch:

Have u got them both slammed down on the lock nuts ?  If there is a gap they will move a little  ;) there r raviations on quill diameters aswell which can be remedied by wrapping cut up beer can around the quill. But b very carefull cos when its cut its like a razor  ::)

Good advise there Steve. I would also check the headset hasn't come loose as the bearings settle into the cups after a bit of riding. Remember to take the top nut and toothed washer off to tighten up the top cone on a beartrap type headset. So you don't fook the threads on the forks.  :daumenhoch:

Cheers, I'll run through your advice tomorrow night, does drinking a beer count as a rehearsal?  :)
